Can a 10 year old start a blog

I would say any child or adult could start a blog that can understand and accomplish what is needed. You would of course have to be very careful with the creeps out there and keep up with it as much as them.

Why couldn't and why shouldn't they start one. If we let our kids do more like that we would have a much better world since they are our future.

Age doesn't matter when starting a blog. Especially if someone just want to make a diary..

Of course he could. There is no rule that says you can't. You can do just about anything online if there is a market for it. Go for it!

Sounds like a good idea. She'll just need some help learning how to use the software. I'm sure she could write about a lot of different things that would interest her and other kids.

Book reviews would be great. She could put her affiliate link to the book at the end

I think it's great to get started early. Anything productive that a person does has the potential to keep them out of trouble. It can also go in very positive directions.

There are tons of sites online now for kids her age to blog and even to interact via social media sites built specifically for kids.

For blogging you could start browsing through kid blog directory sites that are set up to encourage what you propose,

Hey All....


Of my three kids, it's my son that has really taken an interest in what his "old man" does for a living. Once I had described the concept of a blog to him, he was all excited to start.

Some facts about my son and his blogging:

- he does all of his blogs using Blogger.com (he has a Gmail account, and a few of the sites he used like Blogger and Youtube are linked to it).

- he started his first blog when he was 7 years old. He's not 10 and has about 8 different blogs.

- he starts blogs on topics that he has a passion for. He has blogs on soccer, ghosthunting, animals, certain TV shows, etc. Because these are things he loves, he tends to HAVE FUN building his blogs.

- he understands that blogs can make money and has asked me about it. I gave him a lesson on the different types of monetizing blogs (ie. Adsense, Amazon, Clickbank, etc). I want him to focus on growing his blog rather than whether or not its making money. I told him that if he can generate consistent traffic to one or more of his blogs, then we could talk about making money.

- his blogs generate anywhere between 2-3 visits a day or 15-20 visits a day to his best blog. That's much better than many adult Imers that I have worked with.

- I supervise everything he does online. He is mature for his age, but I still know that there are plenty of "crazies" on the internet so I don't let him run free. Some may find that overprotective, and I'm totally fine with that.


So yes, even kids can have blogs. And honestly, many adults can learn a lot by watching the passion and motivation of an inspired child. They have yet developed the skepticism that tends to limit most adults.

A 10-year-old could definitely run their own blog, but the parent needs to moderate the comments if they are enabled. Just think about all the sex sites that get spammed via blog comments nowadays.

Totally encourage this... children have great minds, they are super creative and really can share a message of the world... lots of inventors and book writers are teenagers... when you encourage this action, the child will feel more confident and will learn how to interact with more with the world at large... this builds confidence and communication skills

Yes, she should definitely start one is she has the passion for it. I started my first blog when I was 13.

There is No Problem With it. Your child can start its blog without any hassle. It will also improve its writing skills. Wish Him Good Luck and God Bless Him.

May be someone can start a blog portal for kids... kidlog or something like that

I made my first blog when I was around 12 years old. Didn't do much with it, just posted some funny videos and other interesting stuff I found on the net.

Sure, let him see if he likes it. Maybe in a couple of years you will be able to monetize the blog.

It may be difficult for a 10 year old to keep focus on running a blog. If it is done for fun or as a hobby, it can work anyway but if it is done for profit, it will require a lot of effort. Maybe you can help her just start blogging so that she will see how she feels about blogging and whether it is something she would enjoy doing or not. I hope it works well for you two.

I would make sure that comments are turned off, or only allowed from known readers. You don't want her to be the subject of cyber-bullying which is all too easy and all too common.

Make sure you help her to understand the pit-falls. It's a hard, sad, lesson to have to learn, but I liken the internet to entering shark infested waters. Make sure you help her learn to stay safe.

As a follow up.....

I have all of the comments DISABLED on both his blogs and his Youtube submissions. When he is older and more mature, then we will discuss changing this to allow for more interactivity. But from my own experience with my websites and blogs, I know that there is so much sexually-related spam in the form of blog comments.

Over the last couple of years, my son has NOT wanted to get toys as gifts for his birthdays and holidays. He has been saving his money and buying things like: his own laptop with wifi ability, a digital camera (that's better than my own), a video camera, and video editing software.

This is stark contrast to my childhood, when one day in 1984 when my Dad set up a IMB XT computer. Floppy disks and NO graphics. And it cost $2,000+.


Kids these days have so much technology at their fingertips, and they soak it all up so quickly. Even though I work just about everyday online, my son still teaches me something new at least once a week.

you can give her a try. as long as she enjoy making her own blog, i think there is nothing wrong with that. just always be there and guide her.

Yeah why not? As long as she enjoys it and you monitor what she's writing about then I don't see a problem!

I would definitely say YES, I think articulating yourself about what you have learned is habit we should have. Just be careful of the creeps out there.

I would try finding something that she likes writing about then guide her...
