The great mystery of preselling

Hi,

IM newbie here. Been building up my site in the last couple days, working hard on the SEO aspects and I've seen some Google ranking success so far as well.

I've read a lot of reports and ebooks in the past few days as well. What I'm doing is affiliate marketing using a Wordpress blog. I chose a niche that's probably slightly too ambitious and too big to make serious money with at this point, but I already started and want to finish what I started.

Either way, all the reports and ebooks are constantly more than happy to tell the reader that what they need to do is presell site visitors on the affiliate product.

In the 100s of PDFs I read, I have not seen *one* person actually go into any sensible detail with this! But isn't it actually the most important aspect as it determines whether you'll make a sale or not?

To make it short, I have no idea how to presell my visitors. I've sprinkled my content with affiliate links and a few call to actions, banners here and there, I've got a product review up for the affiliate product. But is that really everything? Do I just wait for traffic to roll in now and eventually I'll get a handful of people clicking through to my affiliate links, or is there some more detail to this with regards to visitor psychology etc. that I'm missing? Is there any good ebook on this - or better yet, do you have any advice?

    There's no point in repeating the content of the vendor's sales page on your own site.

    Your job is to get the prospect in a good frame of mind about the product before they hit the vendor's sales page.

    So, for example, you might offer a positive review of the product based on your own experience. You can then send the prospect to the sales page safe in the knowledge that they're in a positive frame of mind and more receptive to the sales message.

    That's a simple example but explains the bones of it.

    That is great advice Neil, thanks. I guess I just wondered whether there are subtle factors to influencing this frame of mind. I am probably far too obvious, but I guess these little things will be learned over time.

    ...and they're going to depend on many things.

    For example, does your prospect have a problem. If so, they're looking for a solution to that problem. You can review the product and tell the story of how it solved the problem for you.

    Or are they looking for ongoing support with something? Compare a couple of similar sites and positively review the one you're promoting.

    Or maybe they want to be entertained. Lay out how the product or service had you rolling on the floor.

    You get the idea - you need to think like your prospect. Feel what they feel.

    It gets easier with practice.

    And, of course, you need to get into testing where you can pitch one "pre-sales" page against another and see which produces the most sales for you.

    Don't get bogged down in all this - get something up then you can tweak it ad infinitum.

    Regarding the site in the last post...the thing is, that site almost equals a squeeze page in that the visitor is asked to check out the affiliate link, but there's nothing more he could do on that page.

    But what do I do if I run a full-scale Wordpress blog? How would I be able to implement a similar thing - since I've got tons of other links my visitors could click?

      There's nothing more the visitor needs to do on that page.
      The only purpose of that page is to "sell" them on clicking
      through to the sales page.

      That's the purpose of the presell, right...

    Go to sitesell.com. Sign up as an affiliate, follow the verification instructions and read the presell information they give you.

    Not only do they have the biggest selection of affiliate tools I've seen, you could easily spend several hours learning exactly how to model presell information for your own stuff from their affiliate area.

    I've known about this site for about 5 years, and just yesterday signed up as an affiliate and was amazed at the amount of content there.

    PS. The main purpose of any presell is to begin a friendship/relationship with your prospect.

      Ken Evoy is the founder of Sitesell.com. He's written several (long + free) ebooks on affiliate marketing, and he goes in-depth into preselling.

    the power of suggestion works everytime mprey. Tell a person to imagine themselves doing something, and you are on your way to preselling them. Dont get too wrapped up in the features, just explain the benefits and how your customers will use your product/service

    the most effective way to presell any product your are promoting is to produce an ebook that discusses topic related to that product, this ebook should be a minimum of 5page and up to 15page long, then fix in your affiliate link in appropriate place
