Your 'Top 3' Traffic Recommendations?

by Jeff W
51 replies
Hi Everybody!

If you had to start all over today in your Internet business... or a newcomer was to ask you what do you recommend as '3' very good traffic strategies to go with? What would you tell them?

As someone still learning this business but eager to get something online soon, my understanding - but I could be very well wrong here - is that these '3' are decent choices:

1) Facebook
2) Blog
3) Youtube

Am I close to right? lol

What do you think? I'd love to hear from others as I'm too new at all this to even begin to guess what are the best ways to start getting some decent traffic.

What would you recommend as 3 great choices?

Thanks folks as your input here would be wonderful and very much appreciated!

Thanks so much!

If I were to recommend to a newcomer, I would actually go for top sources of CONTENT, for them to follow.
FB, Youtube, Blog, all those depend on you being interesting, multi-fasceted, have multiple views or followers. Can't do that if you're locked into "being an online marketer". You can do it if you're "a funny guy", or "extreme sports lover" or anything else that people want to read about, watch, talk to, re-tweet.

That's it. Learn to love your content, be interesting, then it doesn't matter if you start with a blog, or upload a video on youtube, that will be only the SECOND step.

    Good luck!

Tom has made some good suggestions, Jeff - I would add that your "best" traffic source will vary from niche-to-niche and even from person-to-person implementing it.

It's often about where your audience "hangs-out" online. Is that on Social Media, reading Blogs, in the Classifieds?

How you best relate to them plays a factor, as well. If you love to write, Blogs or Articles can be great. Quick bursts of inspiration for your community? Try Twitter. Love the camera? YouTube.

Whatever you produce, take action, get it done, don't focus on perfection and make the CONTENT of high quality.

If I had someone new come to me and ask me this question, knowing what I know on what works, this is what I would say.

Don't waste your time with articles.

Forums is a great way to get some free traffic but never spam them.

Pay per click in the way to go for FAST results but don't ever work with the smaller companies. Work with Google, Yahoo, Bing.

YouTube is great too but you need to add new videos all the time.

Youtube and social networks no doubt are perfect sources of getting good traffic towards your url. But everything takes time and hard work so its not the rocket science you have to work hard on social network and on youtube you need to be more careful for the niche market.

I would have to agree with everyone, YouTube, Facebook, and PPC. I say pay per click, if you are a website owner because I feel paid traffic is the fastest way to jump start your business. I would gradually try to move towards free advertising as time permits.

I would agree to all the suggestion + Offline marketing in your locallity with flyers, leaflets and banners can actually get you a lot of traffic + do not forget about mobile apps as well as your own friends and family to visit your site as long as you keep updating stuff.

If you keep subscription on your site then newsletter can be a good source as well.

      Kind regards,

This may apply only to a blog, so if you decide to start a blog then this may be more applicable but...

        1) Social Bookmarking Sites (Pinterest, Redditt, Chime In)
        2) Blog Commenting (focus on commenting on blogs in your niche)

        Thanks Jo!

I really appreciate your input here!

How's Phuket? (My wife and I live in Japan and have been hearing lots about the benefits of foreigners - I'm Canadian, she Japanese) living in Phuket! Saw some pics of the place. Wow! (I'm a huge scuba enthusiast so...

p.s. - This is unrelated but a little bit of constructive criticism here - bring back the 'monthly' subscription prices on SNA! lol I think a yearly membership fee is a little daunting all at once but a monthly fee... that's manageable for most and especially in our rough economic times. (Just my 2 cents by the way

Thanks again for your reply to my post here as your knowledge of being out there in the trenches really is helpful!

All the success to you Jo!

          Hey Jeff!

Phuket is gorgeous! Nipping back to the UK for 6 weeks in July, but back again in August for a few months. You just can't beat the climate, the people, the food! It's fab!

I LOVE scuba diving! Get yourself over here and we'll head out to the Similans for a dive (one of the top 10 spots on the world apparently!)

Regards The SNA, I have done exactly that! Thanks for your feedback. Yep we found many people struggled with the one time payment so we now offer the SNA on the back end of our small front end products and we have a trial period and a small monthly fee.

          Great minds think alike eh!

Also Jeff regards traffic, we probably try out 3 - 5 new strategies every week. There are just so many awesome ways you can get people to your optin pages and offers. But without doubt the ones we have the most success with and drive big chunks of traffic with quickly are quality solo ads, facebook page post ads and adswaps.

I'm loving blogging as a more long term traffic driver as it also helps build your profile and reputation at the same time, which is critical to success!

          Great to chat!

            Hi Jo!

            Thanks for the great reply!

That's great that you are able to get a chance to get back home while at the same time getting back to that lovely sunshine before the cooler weather starts to settle in the UK in the fall.

I've been hearing a lot of wonderful things about Phuket - the great expats community there, the decent costs of living, the great food, kind Thai folks and of course the absolutely beautiful surroundings!

I'd love to get myself set up there this winter and just get a feel for the costs and lifestyle there overall as I'm just hugely into the beach / scuba lifestyle (I wonder if that has anything to do with that fact that I'm Canadian? lol :p ) and Thailand offers a great opportunity as we're currently living in Japan - so it's quite a bit closer than of course coming all the way from Canada.

I absolutely would love the chance to meet up and do a dive with you there on the Similans when I'm there Jo! (I've heard of those islands before but never saw photos of them but now I just Googled them. Wow! OMG! lol

Thanks also for the great traffic advice Jo as your input really matters and within the next few weeks I'll also join SNA as I love your content! (Just need to get through some current videos I'm watching before I put too much on my plate)

Thanks so much Jo and I hope that you have a lovely time with your family back home and when I'm in Phuket, absolutely I'll take you up on that dive offer!

Cheers and all the best to you and your family!

    My top 3 are:

1: social media - Facebook, twitter, youtube, linkedin, pinterest
    2: blogging - article marketing
3: PPC (pay per click) - Facebook, youtube, Google and Bing
    and of course solo ads...
first 2 are freee so more time consuming and the 3rd and 4th is paid. quick but can run up budget quickly!

so you have to do marketing depends on that,

the best results I got for traffic were:

Contributing to targeted discussion forums and link backs to blogs
Creating targeted facebook sites and pointing back to my blogs from there
    Pinterest sharing on my blog

And for all of those sharing valuable content on a regular basis increased that traffic. I think testing/tracking on a regular basis should become a habit we should all do as many times I have had good runs of traffic and all the while I hadn't actually done anything so it would be good to find out what caused that run of traffic and replicate it over and over.

I agree with what others have suggested, in that it depends on your niche. Some niches allow the purchase of traffic for pennies, which makes PPC and solo ads attractive. Others prefer free methods and a strong link building strategy. I love content. After all there's no point in bringing people to your site only for them to leave quickly because there is nothing of interest.
