What do you think about the wordpress security niche

Hi all,

I'm an I.T professional with lots of experience in website security. I'm thinking to create a product about wordpress security and how to protect your blogs from hackers etc.

I haven't seen many products around this niche so I'm wondering if there is an interest for such a product on the warriorforum. I would appreciate your feedback about this.

Thanks a lot

Harris

You can actually do your own research.

Login to WarriorPlus and look for products with "security" in them in the Affiliate "request offer" area. Check out sales, bumps etc and gauge the demand.

    I see 18 products total since 2011.

      Thanks a lot Jesus,

I'm new to warriorplus so I haven't thought about the research you can do in there.

    Yes, there is huge interest.

Many self-hosted WP blogs have been under steady brute-force attacks on the admin login in recent weeks.

This has prompted a big discussion and demand for information about WP security.

There has also been discussion here and in other forums about ways to block certain countries- say block all traffic from China and/or Russia.

But this is not easy to do and a simple solution that could block attacks using geo targeting would be a huge boon to many blog owners.

There's definitely a market for WordPress security, the real questions is what are you going to offer in your plugin that nobody else is.

I'm not talking about creating a plugin. The product will be a guide how to provide holistic security to a wordpress blog with step-by-step instructions.

I'm thinking there is no money in it or you would see more products for it.

There's little demand for info products on "how" to do it.

But service products that take the burden off you are huge. WordFence, Sucuri and ManageWP come to mind.

There's plenty of how to do things articles out there. The main problem is, people are too lazy to do it. The amount of poorly coded plugins & themes being installed is increasing at an alarming rate. A lot of those who have security issues, also have issues remotely doing anything with any type of code, which is why you'll find 500 different plugins installed to do the simplest of tasks that ultimately end up being exploited.

This is what I suspected too. So maybe I should abandon the idea of creating a "how-to" guide and think about a "service" oriented product.

Thanks a lot for the feedback

Why don,t you start a blog on Wordpress in general where you could review and recommend Wordpress plugins, themes etc, offer general tips and advice, and offer your security guide as an optin freebie..... I would sign up for it....

That's something I was thinking about too. Thanks a lot for the feedback.

No problem. This press release should allude to the potential earnings for a "service" oriented product in the WP market. Simply put, they're huge.

I just purchased a guide about Wordpress security and it covers more or less what you are talking about. You can PM me and I can tell you more about this guide, what it covers and what the costs are.
