Need help with videos (where to host) and what's the most Cost Effective?..

Hey all,

I am creating a module style membership course...

I will have many videos in each module but I have a question about price/hosting those membership videos...

--> What is the most cost effective way to host all of these membership videos?

*note: I am only talking about the membership videos for members (not the sales video)

...I anticipate having a 1,000s of members over time (my last product had 15,000+ customers over 2 years ) so I want to make sure everyone can watch the videos while also being cost effective (b/c that's a lot of bandwidth).

- So should I just host them on my VPS server (or possibly a dedicated server)?

- Or use Amazon s3 and a video player like easy video suite

- Or use Wistia to host and play the files?

- Or should I get a 2nd server and serve the member's videos from that server so it doesn't bog down the main site?

*note: I will be using either Digital Access Pass or wishlist member to secure the membership area and hopefully the video files. What's your opinion on this ...in terms of what is the most cost effective for hosting/playing my membership videos for members and keeping everything running well?

Thanks a lot.

Regarding hosting, I'd recommend using S3 to store the videos or use YouTube/Vimeo etc & embed them. This'll save you in bandwidth costs.

I highly recommend putting videos on Amazon S3 - it's an absolute bargain, and great to take the load of your main hosting.

I use Vimeo and I love it.
That being said, the new Youtube rolled out a couple of months ago and looks really really nice...

Amazon S3 with Cloudfront is a great deal. That's what I use.

As others said - use Amazon S3 because you will not find any cheaper solution I think. Amazon works great for such needs. 95% video courses I bought are hosted on Amazon.

Amazon S3 all the way - they are very, very cheap - much cheaper than anyone could ever imagine actually, and I have never had a reliability issue with them.

Thanks a lot guys! Great info and S3 seems like a great choice for the actually membership videos (instead of hosting them on my own server).

Would you recommend I host my main Sales video on S3 and use something like Easy Video Suite (or another video player you recommend) to play it ...instead of Wistia?

I'm noticing a lot of guys using Wistia now and I'm not sure why...

Is it more cost effective than S3 ...or do they just like the analytics of Wistia?
