Are digital marketers still needed?

Are skills attained from a degree in Digital Marketing (Google Analytics, AdWords, Search Engine Optimisation, Social Networking, Blogging, Twitter) as useful as eCommerce related or Software Development related qualifications in the world today?

I'm not fully sure if they are important anymore.

Thanks.

Having a degree may look professional, but being able to prove past results speaks for itself.

Hi, no degree was just an example, I mean that qualification as opposed to other qualifications these days.

Well, I'd say that the GAP (Google Adwords Professional) and GAIQ (Google Analytics Individual Qualification) are a must if your selling SEM and SEO...

That being said - Prove past results works best

I have a Bachelors Degree. No employer, client, or even family member has ever asked to see it. In my opinion, it was a useless waste of money. It's about SKILLS and a PORTFOLIO... References don't hurt either!

The honest truth that you will learn is that most digital marketers did not go to school to do just that.

For example, I was a business major and obtained my Master's in Business as well. While that helped me with many aspects of "business" in general, it did not help me learn about SEO, Paid Traffic and all the other types of internet marketing we assist local business owners with.

I think you will find that most successful digital marketers were self-educated or coached over a period of time.
