Novel Approach For Marketing A Novelist

Any ideas for marketing a novelist?

I know of someone who has a few books published, but aren't reaching a broad audience.

Their books may or may not defy categorization, but more often than not end up in the "literature" section of the bookstore.

They do signings, and go to conventions, but just aren't getting a lot a traction to advance their career.

HELP!

I would think marketing specific books to targeted buyers would be a better approach than marketing the author.

If the books sell well, the author should be able to capitalize on that success, especially if he/she builds a customer list.

Won't potential readers be more interested in the books by the author rather than facts or stories about the author? (With the possible exception that the author has a personal story that is very captivating)

    Good luck,

      Thanks Steve.

All this info is second hand, but....

The author has probably sold 5000-10,000 copies, and I don't know if they have built any kind of customer list.

I guess they can work with the books publisher to get a customer list. And, if they don't already have a site, they should make one, sell digital copies of their work, and keep building on whatever success they've already had.
