Any legal ramifications to this?

Hi all.

I was wondering if it is legally clear to use a dead celebrity's name in a book title. For example, there is a book called 'How Proust Can Change Your Life'. I'm wondering if the author would have needed some kind of clearance from an estate, or whether it's fine to make use of long-dead names in that manner?

Any guidance appreciated.

It depends on how long they have been dead. Seriously. Recently deceeased public figures might have heirs that will go after you for 'false light' issues.

It would be foolish to take legal advice from this or any other forum.

      Good luck,

    Very simple: contact an attorney.

If you're dead set on getting advice in a forum, at least do it on a law forum
