My Blog is Dying!!! Help!!!

My blog was doing amazing when I was using the .blogspot domain. But when I changed to a custom domain, the traffic decreased to about 50%. I hoped that it would come to normal but it never did. But now the traffic is decreasing more and more each day. Google Webmaster show that my blog's search queries are down by 44% and clicks by 45%. I don't know what to do. Please, can anyone check out the blog in my signature and help me through the problem. A big thanks in advance.

Well that's normal considering BlogSpot ranks higher by default. What SEO work have you done on the new website?

I haven't done any SEO work. What should I do?

Well, you just answered your own question.

If you don't work on a website you can't expect it to magically grow. The traffic will continue to decrease until you start to work on SEO.

So, formulate a basic SEO plan and then start working. I am not a expert on SEO but last I checked, your website needs the following in order to rank well in search engine results: lots of back links, social media presence, and quality content added on a regular basis.

I am sure there is much more to it but that should point you in the right direction.

Remember, if you don't work on a website, you can't expect the traffic to increase.

The posts that previously got thousands of hits daily have now been dormant. What is it?

I'm guessing that the old links around don't direct to your blog anymore, hence the loss of traffic. So yes, time to get your hands dirty and work on SEO.

I see that you are offering a free PDF but in a very strange way. You should have an opt-in box with the picture of the free ebook to attract new subscribers. The way you did it is quite confusing.

link your old blogspot blog to your new one, leave up the most popular post you had before... distribute the blog posts between each blog, so there is no repeating material

.blogspot domain names usually rank much higher by Google naturally because those blogs are hosted by Google.

If you switched over and had such a dramatic drop in stats then you'll probably have to start using major SEO tactics.

You might also want to start looking into other forms of advertising such as banner ads on other sites.

Shoulda stayed on Blogspot and used it to build up a list, then you at least have a solid base of readers before trading over. I've always found that blogspot blogs rank extremely well and have never had one closed down for anything (*sits back and waits for the haters to appear now*).

Add more content, and start building links immediately.

Personally I feel that you are not in that bad of shape, yes it sucks that your new blog is getting dramatically less activity than your blogspot blog was.

You say that you have not done any SEO for new blog, so I am assuming that you did not do any for the blogspot blog either, just leveraged the authority that comes with a blogger blog.

My experience has always been if you can rank and get massive amounts of traffic with just the blogger authority and no off site seo, then ranking a new self-hosted blog should be no problem so long as you are willing to be patient and do the leg work to build your own authority and earn the big G's trust.

Often I will throw up a blogger, weebly or tumblr mini blog just to test the waters, if it rises to the top quickly then I will pursue a self-hosted blog, if it doesn't well then off to greener pastures.

    Good luck

Another way around this problem is to forward the old blogspot domain to your new one, then make sure you have something on your blog that explains the migration.

EDIT: Along with learning about SEO and using that to help bring you traffic.
