Hey guys,

I was just poking through my local business directory and I notice a lot of locals that do not have a website.

I was wondering if it would be illegal or mail soliciting if I mailed them out one of my web design brochures with my prices/packages. Could they sue me or anything since I didn't have their permission?

Just wanted to make sure.

Thanks,

Aaron

Instead call them. E/mailing without permission doesn't look good for your company.

Leave some of your brochures in local business places.

Assuming by "brochure" you mean "physical piece of paper", then I know it's legal in the US.

On the other hand, it may look like junk mail to them, and most of your brochures may be thrown away. But it should be perfectly legal.

However, there are a few tricks you can use (google something like "how to get customers to open your mail") to improve the chances of them taking a look.

If by "brochure" you mean "electronic version to be sent via e-mail", then it's probably not a good idea.

    All the best,
    Michael

Unless direct mail is illegal in Canada, which I doubt it is, you have no worries.

But just sending a brochure and your prices probably won't get you very far. I would highly recommend you include a sales letter along with it including all the benefits they get by having a website and you creating it for them. Finally sending something to them just once is also a bad idea. Plan a direct mail campaign

If you want to generate hot leads. I would recommend using a "Free Report" send them direct mail offering the report. Anyone who responds is a great prospect.

Or you could even offer a free seminar and then pitch your services at the end.

I've seen lots of WSO for "offline gold". Picking up all or some of those offers would get you pretty far.

If they are locals and you are able to get to them, why not go there with a brochure in hand and ask if you can set up an appointment to see the Manager and leave the brochure behind.
