Somebody else having problems with Hostgator?

Hi! I know that if I want to solve a problem with my hosting I have to reach their client's support, just want to know if somebody else is having the same problems I have.

About 2 weeks I've got an email from Hostgator saying that they'll move my sites to a new server with new hardware, they did, a week or so later I've got an email saying that my sites where suspended because they where using too much CPU(I hated this, really really hated it) , they suggested me to instal a plugin to clear cache, I did, they put back my sites, now my sites are extremely slow and sometimes they don't load, I never had this problems until they changed the hardware.

I've contacted support several times, they fix one thing, break another.

Somebody else having same issues or is just me?

Thank you!!!

  • Luis,

Sorry to hear you are having issues. I only have one site hosted with Hotgator and I have not noticed nay issues with it. From what you describe, this sometimes can happen no matter what host you have (although some can be more touchy with their bandwidth than others). Have you tried adding code to your server configuration file to make the sites faster? For example if you serve scaled images, set a longer expiration date on resources that don’t change that often and combine images into sprites that are commonly served together, you can decrease the amount of load time on a web page.

Run your sites through Google’s page speed analyzer and it will give you some ideas,

    https://developers.google.com/speed/pagespeed/

    Hope that helps you,

    Shawn

Unfortunately that sounds like a spitting image of how all of the previous EIG migrations went after the purchased other companies.

You'll get about 50 people that reply to this thread saying they're the best company to ever walk the planet but I'd suggest that you start looking for a new provider.

I had a problem with hostgator recently as well. And they couldn't really fix that problem. I came here and was pointed to some sources for new hosting providers. Right now I'm in the testing area of these hosts I picked. While hostgator has a good rep -- this EIG thing has turned all that around completely.

Best of luck with your sites.

I wanted to do some research on how I.S.P.'s could offer unlimited bandwidth. After Google'ng the problem I couldn't find a satisfactory answer and so (being in Houston) I decided to go to Hostgator and apply for a job as a support tech, which I got.

I discovered on day 1. that it's really not an issue of bandwidth (which of course is a finite resource), it's a question of load on the CPU, which has caused you to piss them off.

On day 10 of the training program, about an hour before I was getting ready to quit I took a call from someone and somehow the conversation got turned around to marketing. At the same time the CEO of Hostgator, a fat little arrogant turd whose name I can't even remember decided he would choose that call to monitor.

Before I had a chance to say I wasn't spying just gathering industry knowledge he told me I had too much knowledge for the level of my position and called me a spy. Couldn't make eye contact though! He had his cronies walk me out of the door. It was free beer day too!

If you want to avoid issues like this get a co locate deal with a data center.

Send an email to feedback@hostgator.com to get in touch with their management and let them know what's happening.

Yes, I am suffering the same issues - with a number of sites having far too much down time. They haven't mentioned the CPU usage thing to me though . . .

And the support is extremely poor (with huge delays either on the online support or via their ticket system) Sadly a while ago they offered excellent and timely support. I think they must be suffering as an organisation.

Hostgator are making my life an absolote nightmare right now - I have started to lose offline feepaying clients. . . .

I'm also needing good recommends for hosts - hosts that offer top notch support!

What are you requirements? Budget, types of sites you're looking to host etc etc?

I needed to resolve an issue with HostGator around 6 weeks ago. They took 52 hours to respond to my Support Ticket, but I have to say, the problem was then fixed fast.

I have no problem with their technical abilities, but their response time is now abysmal. In the past they often responded within the hour.

An associate recently moved all her hosting to Scala Hosting and so far she's very happy with them. Next time I set up a new domain I may open an account with them too.

I used to be hosted at Hostgator but they also shut one of my sites down for using too much resources or something. It really sucked. I use other hosts now that are better for me. Cheaper too.

Hostgator was sold out to EIG a few months back.

EIG has a reputation of buying good hosting companies in the past and then making them crap.

Their current customer support is a good example of "nonsense" where you ask something, and they keep on copy/pasting the generic sentences they have been asked to send when they "don't know what the customer is asking"

Some of my clients also faced issues with hostgator, and all the times that I contacted their support for help, the only thing they could give me was ridiculous and stupid answers.

I use Hostgator and I haven't had any issues thus far, but this is troubling. I may start preparing to move to another hosting company the moment I start seeing any issues. Sad that such a great company seems to be doing bad now. As far as other hosting companies go, the only other one that seems to be recommend highly is BlueHost. That's the one I'd probably look into transferring to.

You may want to switch to another hosting provider. Yahoo Webhosting is very good. They offer alot of features and tools for marketing to get alot of traffic to your site, alot of security tools including SSL and Verisign & Norton, and even secure FTP... along with 24/7 customer support.

Hopefully the situation you're going through with Hostgator will improve. I've used Hostgator and i've never had a problem with them, and their customer support is good too.

I never use support from hosts because if everything works fine, why do you need to contact support? I can figure things out myself usually with google.

What I have noticed lately with HG is that my WordPress sites are down at times and after a few minutes of refreshing it goes back online. I'm not even driving any traffic to them yet.
