Creating a New Product in the Mens Health / Adult Niche

A few weeks ago, somebody posted a request for a good-converting penis enhancement product. I kind of chuckled as I read that thread. And then I thought to myself, "Man! That's a huge market! It's too bad that it's pretty saturated. If only I could come up with a similar type of product (men's sex/health-related) that HASN'T ever been done before! It sure would be cool to have a completely original product to market with no immediate competition."

And then, I had a flash of brilliance. I came up with an idea for an original mens sexual health type of product that has never been done before. I immediately commissioned an ebook, secured a domain and hosting, got to work incorporating the business... and now I'm at a sticking point.

I have NO CLUE how to lay out my website. I can't even conceptualize what types of links and information I am going to have. Part of the problem is that I don't know how much I want to market at once.

Do I want to stick with my one main product? Or do I want to position my product as the main thing, but also link to other potentially interesting products in the men's health marketplace (e.g., penis enlargement, dating, etc)?

Do I want a video sales page? Or do I want it to be text and image based? Would having multiple video sales pages for different products be too distracting?

Do I want multiple sales pages for the different products? Or do I want articles reviewing products with a more relaxed "Here's the link to order..." button at the bottom?

What other products might be of interest?

Honestly, my product is pretty simple. It's not some huge system that I can publish 20 different articles on without giving away too much. But it is original and ought to be desirable, and I have a pretty good idea of how to pitch it.

Or should I forego direct sales via the website completely and focus on building up a list? I like this option, however I think some people would prefer to order securely without winding up on a list, so I definitely think I need that option for this niche.

Any thoughts, wordpress themes, examples, experiences in this niche, etc will be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you should forego direct sales. A lot of adult stuff are impulse buyers and they want it then and there.

And don't get me started on adult penis enlargement spam. People will be wary of that.

What are you going to do for traffic? The type of visitors you're going to have might help you decide the best approach for selling to them.

@PersianPrince - Have you seen any slick way to incorporate the option for a small infobook or mailing list into a direct offer? I'm thinking it can't really be done, it's sort of one or the other. But if you have a clever trick, I'm all ears. Otherwise, I agree with you that the direct sale route may be the way to go (will have to do some testing).

@Clickthosekeys - Good point about the types of visitors. I expect to get the bulk of my traffic through YouTube videos. I have a friend who will be doing an "editorial style" discussion of the merits of my product in a jock-ular, men-talking-to-men kind of way and ultimately, I think he can be quite a hit (I'm setting him up as an affiliate and will help him make the videos to get started... he's a naturally unfiltered type of character, quite humorous, raunchy, and charming at the same time). But as I get started, I expect to run a few CPA ads to see what I can get right off the bat I'm guessing his work will probably grow more and gain traction over time. I also haven't ruled out the possibility of solo ads if I can find someone with a good list in a related niche.

And I'd be open to other affiliates as well.

I myself would go for a straight opt in squeeze page and use a video to do the selling. I don't know how your video editing skills are but make sure that the video is top notch, have someone else create if you're not good at editing polished videos.

What sort of price are you going to be selling your product for? My first route for marketing would be setting up an affiliate program, no shortage of webmasters/email lists who would promote a new product in this niche.

My recording skills are well above average. Editing, I'm decent but slow. I am also a hypnotist and I do NLP. So I've got the video recording and script creation part down for sure.

The price is another sticking point. My gut says the product should be in the $25 range, but I'm not sure that leaves enough to give me a fair return while also satisfying the interests of other affiliates. What do you think?

If you use a video for something like this, you definitely don't want to set it to autoplay like a lot of IM products do. It could be very uncomfortable for people sitting in a public place when the video starts playing

    Hi Benny

I've done something similar-ish recently. Had an ebook written, set up a site, set up a sales page specific to my product and tested it with some google adwords traffic. Sold a few - it converted at 1.5%, which I'm happy with as I wrote the sales page myself, and haven't tweaked it yet.

I would be happy to share my site with you if you'd like to do the same. I'm not saying my way is the right way to do it, but any ideas can help, and it would at least give you an idea of how my site is structured.

    PM me if you're interested.

@ChaseWatts - Actually, I think my product would be alright with autoplay. While it's adult-related, it's also not a stigmatizing topic. It's something most guys would be totally cool telling their friends about, although maybe not their mother.

@sentient - Thanks for the offer. I will take you up on that when I get the site up and running. I'm leaning towards doing a single videopage, nothing else on the website. So it'll be a pretty boring site! And I can't do the video until I get the book in my hands. I need to read it myself so I have a better idea of how the sales pitch should go. So I'd say I'm about 2-3 weeks from having the site up and running. But I'll send you a PM as I get a little closer to that date.... definitely pre-launch, in case you give me some good ideas. But right now, I'm holding on to the secrecy of the topic because it's ridiculously simple and awesome (IMO).

Protect your niche at all costs Benny! (although I am intrigued)

I'm going to be driving my traffic organically through search engines (cpc is too expensive to make it worthwhile).

I priced my product at $27 but will test different price points once I start getting more traffic)

My topic gets a couple of hundred searches a day so I'm not going to be looking for affiliates but selling myself.

And it's definitely not something a guy would fee comfortable telling his friends about!

Anyway, best of luck with it, it's great to hear of someone developing their own idea. I'm working on another one at the moment and find it much more enjoyable than promoting affiliate offers.

Sentient - Do you have an affiliate program? Who are you selling through? I'm curious about your niche as well.

That's what sucks about IM... that tightrope between what you want to share and what you need to protect.

No affiliate program, I'm just selling myself using Paypal. It's not a big enough niche to justify having affiliates.

I suspect it's not as original or interesting as your idea!
