Default Do I need a CMS to Implement RSS Feeds

Hi
I would like to implement an RSS feed button on my site so people can subscribe to all the new information that I want to publish. Do I need a CMS for this?

Thanks
Chloe

I don't think so. Search for "create rss feed for site" and you will get plenty of results, some of them specifically claiming they can create an RSS feed for an already existing site.

Still it will be better if you have a CMS because you won't have to depend on a 3rd party service/script to generate a feed. Plus you get to enjoy all the features of a CMS. And if you choose a popular CMS like Joomla (or even WordPress), there are plenty of freelancers out there who can convert your existing site to the platform you choose.

You don't need a CMS to have an RSS feed. As inman pointed out there are scripts available that let you create an RSS feed and put anything you want in it.

(PS. this is a GREAT little trick. you can create a special feed that contains information "only for subscribers" that has information not contained on your site and promote that to bring them back to the site for the information that isn't necessarily in the feed).

BUT.. If you are creating content quickly enough for a lively feed, you might consider a CMS just to ease the process of publishing your content.

Remember to put something useful here...

Wordpress automatically creates feeds for you. If you plan
to update regularly, like a blog, Wordpress is a good choice.

It just makes more work to do the same thing with an HTML
site.

From a technical standpoint, all you need is a tiny bit of XML knowledge and a text editor. Armed with that, you can create a feed for pretty much anything you want, even other sites.

From an ease of use angle, using a CMS that creates the feed automatically makes life a whole lot more pleasant than updating a manual feed every time you post something...
