For subscribers : B4 you give your email address for a free gift, think again!

Its like candy hung in front of a kid.
A carrot in front of a donkey. (if that is what they eat)

Many may think, email address is free, i can just create a "bogus" email to use for getting all this free gift etc.

But whatever email you give, you are gonna spend time loggin in after wards, going through the emails and spending time clearing emails.

Sure, it is not like giving your home address, or bank account, or telephone number. But by giving your email address to someone without doing research about that person is just as good as losing the most valuable asset, TIME.

What i notice many marketers do is this, they replicate their list into other list.
You may have signed up for "free SEO training" for example.
But they copied you into 10 other list of theirs.
Probably for free plr, free ppc, etc etc..

Then when you start to feel like you are receiving too much emails and you decided to unsubscribe, you unsub, but only to find that you are still receiving emails from them. Under a different sender name/list name.

Its like cutting one head and 2 heads come up.

As i've said before in other threads, i have not been signing up for anyones list for a long time, but im receiving emails from new people every week.
Every week i see a new senders name.

So my emails i receive per day just grows exponentially even when im not actively subscribing for anything.

So think before you give that free email address of yours, as much as it is free or bogus, it is still valuable because it takes time, your PRECIOUS time to go through emails, deleting them, classifying them, sieving through good offers and bad ones, looking through the offers itself, etc..

Time is an asset, your email account may be free, your time is not!

All the reasons you mentioned are the reasons we have email addresses specifically for subscriptions and fee offers. If we get too much we just do a "Delete All" and wait for it to fill up again. I do not think it is the big deal you make it out to be

      Thats what i thought initially.
I do have emails for signing up with random offers.

But think about it, you start receiving 50 emails a day to that email address.

How do you know which is good and which is bad.
You have to sieve through the offers and emails.

And that means opening and reading them, or clicking on their links and sitting through the sales video.
Or even buying the product and finidng out what kind of products they recommend.

If you say "simple, you will roughly know which sender sends what kind of emails"

But that takes time, over a period of time OPENING their emails to know what kind of emails they are sending.
      So again that takes time.

If you are actually gonna just select all and delete, then in the 1st place why do you sign up for offers out there??

So no, i dont think im exaggerating. =)
Sometimes i do, but not this time.

Why not send it to an alternative email, that is what I do?

I open them based on the sender.

Hi, if you read my whole OP, i said, you sign up for XYZ, even if you unsub, they have already copied you into so many other sub list they have.

So you still continue to receive emails from the same people under different list of his.

Yup that is one of the reasons, like if you use an email for contact point on your website, there are bots out there that scrape such details.
I notice that, but there are email addresses that i do not even use or give in public domains.
So its down to the people whom you sign up to.

Yes it is common that we use an alternative email or a fake email or a bogus one or one just for singing up for stuff. I mentioned that in my OP but the problem which i mention does solve by itself by just using an alternative email.

But yes, i agree with you, opening base on sender is a good way.

Only thing is, you really gotta remember who you sign up with.

And some times you sign up for "Nick's Free PLR" and when you unsub, you still receive emails from "Nick's PLR for free".
He just changed his list name and copied you over, so you haev to unsub from that list too.

Which brings me to my OP's point.
        Subscribe to people's list properly.

Because if they are one of those who duplicate your registration on many other list of theirs, there is no escaping.
You have to keep track of who send you what, who you signed up for under what specific list name and who you unsub before.

And all this is TIME. that my point.

I agree that you have to be selective. It’s better to pay attention to what you are doing, if you really want to read a free ebook, and a lot more before simply giving an email address, even if the messages go to your second email box.

      Yea sounds like me..

i like to look at mails to have an idea of what is out there.

But sometimes it just gets on my nerve to see low quality emails and cheap tricks just to keep sending emails to me.

Cos it takes time to sieve tru all the junk and really see and follow people you want and if possible learn too.

But it gets difficult when those who you decide you do not want to follow or keep track of anymore and unsub from them, only to keep receiving from their other sub list.

    1. They are not allowed to subscribe you to another list beside the one you confirmed your intention to be on.

    2. If you use Gmail, you can always create an "identification" for the list you subscribe to; e.g. if I subscribe to you I'd create myemail+newbee@gmail.com; if I subscribe to Greedy's list, it would be myemail+greedy@gmail.com... etc.

You can use a name AND an email reminding you of the original list(owner) you signed up for - which means you'd know exactly who is spamming you. And then you can report it as spam to their AR provider. I sure do!

I'm not Newbiee but yes this is happening to me. It's all tied into the Aweberx.com thread from a while ago.

There's also jvlists.com, copyandclick.me, and iqsharing.com (as well as others but don't have time to go find them now)

    Mark,

iqsharing.com is another belonging to the guy I'm thinking of. He goes by Danut Burlan, Burlan Danut, and several variations.

Romanian spammer, specializing in IM-related stuff, mostly sold through JV Zoo, WarriorPlus, and Clicksure. Changes the names in the From field of his emails regularly.

This guy is responsible for a big chunk of the spam I get related to this forum and the services mentioned.

Anyone who's getting a ton of spam like that from names they don't recognize has probably ended up on his list(s). I can't say whether Clicksure will do anything about him, but W+ and JV Zoo will ban spammers pointing people to their services if they have credible evidence.

The links in his emails don't point directly to the sellers or affiliate platforms. If you're getting stuff like this, go to WhereGoes? - A tool for tracing the redirect path of URLs and paste the links in to see the redirect path. That will tell you who to report him to.

What exactly is credible evidence for JV Zoo? I've sent them explanations, headers, emails from different names, etc. and their canned response is "we take spam seriously" but apparently not seriously enough to give up a commission. If they do ban an ID then apparently it's easy as pie to get another one because they have come with different IDs.

And they are coming to, interestingly enough, to 3 addresses that were only ever entered on sites run by Ryan Deiss. Their support had the same type response as above.

I know take it up with them.

I've thought about posting on WSO threads "affiliate xxx is spamming me with a link to your product. I never opted in to his list and am requesting that he be stopped from spamming me on behalf of your product" or something like that. You probably wouldn't take that too kindly though Paul.

Here's the system I use to minimize this spam getting
        into my main inbox...

        1. I've got a GMail account that's been set-up purely
for my 'speculative subscriptions'. I only check this
inbox once or twice a week.

So, if I see a list that I want to join for speculative
        purposes, I set-up a unique e-mail address using
        the neat GMail + functionality:

        e.g. myspeculativegmail + listname @ gmail . com

That way, if I unsubscribe from a list and they continue
to e-mail me, or sell my e-mail address on, then I can
trace it to the source (unless they strip out the +listname).

If I receive unwanted e-mail to a tagged e-mail address,
I unsubscribe. If this is ignored, then I set-up a filter within
GMail to send the e-mails to spam.

If the list owner sends useful e-mails, then I may promote
them to get into my main inbox that I check frequently...

        2. If I'm more serious about joining a list, then I'll create
a unique forwarding e-mail address in cpanel for my own
        site.

e.g. listname @ mysite . com and I forward it to my
        main e-mail inbox.

The neat thing about this method is that if the list
owner sells my details on, I can track it directly to
        the source.

More importantly, I can simply delete the forwarding
e-mail address if they ignore my unsubscribe requests
or sell my e-mail address on. That way, I get no more
        spam from those jerks.

        Dedicated to mutual success,

        Shaun

        Mark,

If you're very careful to be sure it really is a list you never signed up for, yes. I would take that very kindly. Stated the way you said it there, I would consider it a personal favor, in fact.

JV Zoo, like many online orgs, is in a bit of a difficult situation with this stuff. They do cancel affiliate accounts if they're convinced the affiliate is spamming. The problem is having sufficient evidence. Too many people in this business throw accusations around based on nothing but a wild hair.

Add to that the ease with which someone can create whole new online identities, and they're between a rock and a hard place on issues like this. You want to be strict with the enforcement, and you want to be fair to the legitimate users of the service. The creeps rely on that tension.

Whackamole becomes the order of the day.

The canned responses are an intelligent CYA thing. It's generally not a good idea to allow front-line support staff to give out personal data on a customer. Especially if the person may not have the experience to be reasonably sure about what they're saying, or is a bit too aggressive. And new folks in jobs like that tend to be easy to fool.

As an example... The source of the addresses. In theory, someone at Ryan's office could have leaked them. I doubt that, but it would be incomplete to rule it out without more information than I have.

It's also possible they were hacked. Or that your computer was compromised when you gave them out, or when you received email to one or more of them. Or that the list host, assuming he used one for the list you signed up for, was hacked. Or the page(s) you entered them into claimed to be Ryan's but actually belonged to someone else.

Those are regular occurrences, and the best security around doesn't guarantee against any of them.

I found this link trying to find something out abut jvlists.com, very informative. I too use my email capabilities from my website to set up email lists that are coded to the list that I sign up to. This way I can have the emails that come to that address automatically deleted, sounds like the same thing Shaun OReilly does with his own site. I like the way he uses gmail also. I am learning other ways and experimenting with other ways to counter all the spam, takes time but I will prevail.
