Article Marketing Gimped My Niche

Hello People,

Recently I came across a great niche. Crazy motivated buyers with lots of problems and hardly any competition.

Within 3 weeks of doing the whole article marketing/syndication and press releases thing, I now have 3 competitors doing exactly the same thing. I'm 90% sure they must have seen my articles on EZA and investigated my niche from there (Hell, I do the same thing!).

So my question is this, when you find a good niche with hardly any competition, should you just use PPC so not to tip off other IM'ers?

Cheers,

G

ps. I didn't create my own product, i just marketed someone elses but in a new way. Otherwise I would welcome IM'ers coming and try to get them to sell my product.

I generally try my best to get an idea well developed before showing others what I did, so I don't talk about it in the open as much until I have something that is well developed, thereby making it more difficult for someone to catch up with me quickly.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

When i find a keyword with little or no competition I usualy avoid using them in article headlines or links at the end of articles. I also avoid using the keyword when I submit comments etc.

If you have a secret niche you should go a little above that niche and only use a revritten version of that keyword. Since the competition is little, you should be able to rank no matter what.

When you have the pagerank to scare competitors away, you can start using more of your keywords. But I do not think it is that neccessary. Keyword in anchor text is good, but a themed keyword is a good second.

When you find a great niche keyword register the keyword as a domain and use this for the URL of your site. Very difficult for new competitors to compete with you in the search engine rankings if your keyword is the the domain.

Multiple keywords? Then register multiple domains and publish sites on each.

    Thanks,

Even PPC can tip others off about your keywords. I'm not sure there's a way to do this without the tip off. I mean, you have to get it out to the public to get exposure one way or another, right?

    Well,

There is just another one of the draw backs of AM.

If you would have just built a niche site, or wrote keyword focused content pages relevant to the niche product on your existing site you would not likely have gotten competition so quickly.

Bottom line is with any success you are going to expose yourself to opportunity seekers. Some methods such as AM just expose you that much quicker.

    Cheers,

This is exactly why I keep telling people that there are no secrets when it
comes to IM. If you look hard enough, you will find everything that most
marketers are going to get their site out to the public.

Sure, some things are harder to spot than others, but for the most part,
as somebody in this thread said, the very nature of what you're doing means
it's going to be out there.

The key is to find a way to make it so that your competition can't top you.

Yes, I know...easier said than done.

Did you use a name they would recognize when you submitted your articles? Perhaps a pen name might have prevented this from happening.

I use a pen name as I outsource the article writing but I have always been concerned that people are spying on my article rss feed. Do you guys create a new article account for each new niche?

I may be mistaken but I think the article RSS feed is unique for each pen name. For example I use my main account RSS feed for twitter so it lets all my followers know when I have submitted a new article under my name but not my pen names.

People spying on your EZA articles is quite expected. it would be a good idea to create a new article account for each new niche so as to keep things simple and easy to manage. Moreover there's a lesser risk of exposing the niches you operate in.
