Are ethnic communities niches?

Ok... i have another question... sometimes i think that I mix up the word "NICHE"... when i think of "NICHE", I always think of ethnic communities and then how I can monetize it...

For example... if I came from Russia or the Netherlands, I would try to target that particular ethnic community...

However, these niches usually flock to forums... which is good but there is no specific purhcasing routine that sets them apart... everyone has their own buying habits...

So, are niches not similar to ethnic communities but specific subjects, content or products?

Or... can you let us know how you can monetize an ethnic community with diverse members?

I think i will be using Niche Finder soon to get better context cuz my original train of thought on what a "NICHE" is, always throws me off... or maybe my definition can be monetized.

I think you are mistaking demographics for niches.

Actually, I think that has been my problem... and I am trying to reprogram myself... but before I do that, I was wondering how I could possibly monetize a demographic...

the sailing option is a good point... i guess I need to find a common interest within a demographic to to find a "NICHE"...

In my opinion there would be products that would be especially appealing to say people from the Netherlands that were into sailing, so in that case you might find you can be more on target in your sales letters that if you were only selling sailing equipment in general. For example, maybe you are selling a sailing shirt that has the Netherlands flag on it. That would be a niche that was centered on the Netherlands, and it might be worth investigating.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

they are huge goldmines but normally for offline service related business. When i was in home loans the Hispanic market was golden if you could crack into it. Only problem is you needed to be hispanic to do it. I attribute this to the fact that people tend to trust people more that are just like them and for me that was a problem! But the Hispanic loan officers i knew were making huge cash of mostly referrals. Not sure how that would translate into online sales but im sure it could some how.

I think understanding a given ethnic group can give you an advantage if you try to carve out a micro-niche. The sailing shirt example is one good one.

Another way to do it is to understand how the group prefers to do things.

For example, here in my part of Florida, there are many Hispanics that simply don't trust banks. They don't use checks or credit cards. Some of this is due to a lack of documentation, some due to paranoia about being in the system, some from habit. If you want to sell to this community, you'd better be able to deal in cash or money orders.

If you carve off a part of a niche by being the guy who takes money orders, you can own that part of the market.

To answer your original question, I don't think ethnic communities are standalone niches.

    Ethnic groups are target markets.
A niche would be the product you want to provide to them.

If you want to monetize a particular ethnic group - just find out what is most
relevant to them and sell them a product particular to their interests, such as
    John suggests.

If you want to capture them with many niche items, build a "community" website
that addresses many of their issues. You can shape your niche products accordingly.

Some ethnic markets you can niche down even further...

Here in Florida, you can often treat Cubans and Mexicans as two totally unrelated groups who just happen to speak Spanish.

    Cor! 'Caucasian' is a niche?

Sorry, were you thinking ethnic 'minorities'?

You might not like what I say - but I believe it.
Build it, make money, then build some more
