I find that you can still get digg pages to rank well for key phrases in the short term but generally not long term.

Good to get your site ranked in google quickly. In terms of traffic, if you don't have anything viral that exploits the little psychological triggers that are present in the community, you're probably wasting your time.
The process to get high on digg will be something like this:

1 - get a few friends to register to digg
2 - write a story(you can make it up) and frame it in a way that exploits common memes, belief systems, timely events and creates controversy.
3 - have your friends vote the story up
4 - hope you're one of the 1 in 100 good stories that gets to the front page
5 - oh.. don't forget a digg button on your site
6 - ...
7 - profit? not likely.

Digg traffic is great, not because they will signup for your "learn the secrets of professional guitar players" or "Who else wants to make $1,000,000,000,000 in the next 24 hours" type sites but because digg is a very good way to link bait. Digg's members are usually tech savvy, are members of forums, and are far more likely to own a blog where they write about (and link to) things that they find interesting.

I don't know for sure but my guess would be about 1 in about 100,000 that get to the front page. They get so many submissions that if you put one in, most of the time you won't even see it on the upcoming pages because they rotate the ones they display. That makes it hard for anyone to vote for it unless you have sent them the info.

Sites like Digg, reddit and stumbleupon are great for getting traffic to your blog.

It's hard to get on the Digg front page, though.

Tyrus antas has put it right, just cook up some story about keywords and hire some people to up vote your story and it will be in the front page of digg and you will get some traffic, and your compete counter goes up, then you can sell other banner ads and other link ads.

Generally Digg and like any other social bookmarking site, it is just used to pull some visitors and get some traffic toward your site.

It's good for backlinks but as mentioned it's a bit difficult to land on the top page. Having people to vote for your article would be great but that would entail a good number of votes.

I thought they started doing an I frame that made the links not follow. Anyone know anything more about that?

I'd much prefer to comment on a blog than to Digg a submission, in fact I x'd digg out of my SEO strategy as I feel it's gonna hurt more than anything, due to the power of Digg.

So if you want to rank naturally and want to be an SEO expert test, test test, then you'll see what you don't like and what you do like.. for me Digg, is one I do not touch.

I want a good keyword researcher, not for min sites but for tech articles. Hit me up if you've got those skillz!

I wrote an article for a certain keyword a couple of weeks ago, bookmarked it with DIGG and in a couple of hours it was number one on Google (for that keyword). I don't know how long it will remain there, though.

i still digg... but I get more traffic from reddit and stumbleupon. Digg comes in 3rd for my "social bookmarking" traffic. It beats twitter for me, but I just started tweetin'

So do they manually moderate the comments, or how does the "spam" and other unwanted stuff stay out of it?

Cheers,

Neil

They moderate pretty much everything. Including stories voted up by the community. If they don't like something, You won't see it in the frontpage.
