Have you ever clicked on a thread, only to see

That someone has only already came up with a good answer? I personally just think problem solved, and hit the thanks button for the person that answered it. I noticed people keep answering the question with the same answer over and over.

Wouldn't it be cool if we had the option to click a solved button to close a thread, and save the Mods the trouble of having to go through the clutter to close them

No matter how good you think you are, others have already tried it, almost always.

You couldn't give that power to just anybody. That's why there are mods with closed, locked, moved and delete buttons.

Maybe if only the thread creator had to option to close his thread or atleast label it as problem solved for the mods to easily find and close it?

Well, I see your point. Maybe some people just want to express their opinions even though somebody already gave the answer. or maybe they're not reading the answer of other people so they didn't know the right answer was given.

So what you want is a forum where, once the best answer is selected, the thread is closed?

I don't see anything wrong with that. But a lot of the threads on here require more than just one "good" answer. Personally, I would like to see the posts with the most "thanks" somewhere at the top of each thread. I think that would really help people get the information they need while still allowing them to leave their own opinion.

    Just a thought.

I do see this quite often but it's easy to see who is doing it just for the sake of increasing their post count. They are the same people who do it over and over again.

I don't think a 'solved' button would fix things though. There are plenty of times when threads go off in different (good) directions after someone has already solved the question and we would lose all of those valuable conversations if threads were just closed right away.

There are also many cases where questions have many different answers.

Yeah. It really bothers me when someone obviously didn't read any of the thread, and then posts the same thing that has been posted 5 times in the same thread.

      I guess it is to:

Other than what Will said, if you or others think the problem is solved when reading a thread, it may not be to the OP. There's also the fact that others may come along later and post a different solution to the same problem, which may end up being easier to implement.

All being said and done, that's half the fun on here - reading the nerd, newbie, and stupid answers . . . and then finding a true pearl of wisdom in amongst them. Remember, it's not a forum for experts and gurus - it's a forum for Internet Marketing where ALL can learn and bounce ideas off each other. Asking questions and contributing when you're not even sure if you're right is how I learned when starting out. And it's almost certainly the way everyone else learns on a forum.

As for those looking to increase their post count; does it matter? Post count means nothing.

And as for signature exposure; if they don't get it one way it will be another. I've noticed many posts being removed when it's obviously blatant self-promotion, but there are loads of members who make a living from WF so you'll never stop it completely.

I think you're all missing the obvious answer to this question:

"but how would I get my sig link in then?"

      Slightly off topic but related...

I just read some latest posts in a thread on here where, for some reason, someone decides to respond to the OPs request of a year ago, and a few other members naturally follow on with their contributions as if the thread were still live.

Meanwhile the OP has long since stopped posting on the forum

Lol, I noticed that also, people will revive a two year old post, long after the OP has given up on IM

When I open a thread I read the original post only most of the times then respond to that.

I don't think any one person can 'solve' most topics just give their perspective on it so I may as well give mines as well too and the OP can decide for himself which one suits him best.

I don't think it's a good idea at all. I think it's terrible for several reasons. All of which are pretty obvious. I mean if someone is asking how to do a task that can be answered in one shot, that's a different story.

But most of these threads are well served by having differing opinions and sharing stories from different perspectives that drive their points home.

MAYBE the OP can have the option to close the thread, but even that has problems. Like filling up the subsequent posts with what they want people to see, and then shutting it down.

I understand you're trying to solve a problem, but I don't think it's that big of a problem, nor do I think this is even close to the right solution.

    Marc

PS. Also let's be honest. We don't always read all of the responses before we answer the OP's question. Sometimes it's just not necessary. You just answer their question and save your time.

I agree 100% that some questions require multiple answers and opinions, but alot of times the questions are as simple as "what is this Wordpress theme" and some people will come and answer it ten times with the same answer. A button to alert the mods when you have gotten your answer, would really help the mods and keep threads from getting cluttered
