So, I am almost certain that many of you have SEEN this questions being
asked before.

Non confirmed Single OPT IN?

Or

Confirmed Double OPT IN??

Please share your expeiences and advice.

( I have always used double opt in on all my lists. Recently I have been contimplating testing a few newer lists with just single opt ins )

Thanks
Ryan

If you are hosting in the US you have to use DOI otherwise you will be in violation of CAN-SPAM. Your hosting company will ban you if they catch you sending email through their US servers if you don't do DOI.

If you're hosting outside of the US the laws are a little different. Up here in Canada we have a law similar to CAN-SPAM but it's a bit more liberal.

If you are hosting on a country like say, China or Russia, the gloves are off and you can do whatever the heck you want. But good luck getting through the spam filters

      You're talking total sh!t there.

You can use single or confirmed ('double') opt-in and still
      be CAN-SPAM compliant.

AWeber and other third-party autoresponder service providers
prefer their customers to use confirmed opt-in.

(For one, it reduces the amount of time, money and effort they
have to spend to maintain the reputation and deliverability of
      their e-mail servers).

      It's pure fiction.

Lol that's not true. All of my aweber lists are Single Opt In. And I've never used double. And my Aweber account is not "continuous". I just opened a new one a couple months ago. :/

    US based.

Single opt-in is the way to go in my opinion. But I'm not doing big numbers yet. It opens you up to problems, like people hitting your forms with other people's emails, but that can be easily fixed by making sure they can unsubscribe and reminding them to do so every so often.

If they want your emails, they want your emails. If they don't, no use trying to hide the unsubscribe link from them.

I used to use double opt INS but when i saw how many subs i was losing because of it i Immediately switched to single optins and most of the top IMer's I know use single optins as well. most people when they enter in their info to subscribe to your list are so distracted with other things that they may forget to confirm your email and then it gets lost with all the other emails in their inbox and then they do not optin and that subscriber is lost.

A lot depends on where the traffic comes from.. if it's solo ads then 100% single optin

I sort of agree with you about double optin but you have to ask yourself do you actually want people on your list who can't be relied upon to click a link to access what they want?

Sure why not. I don't hold people's ADD against them giving me money. Besides, I know I personally forget to click the link too sometimes.

In my opinion it's not even the subscribers fault most of the time. Aweber can be a little slow to send that first email, and people got stuff to do. Then they come back later to 10 other emails.

Wading through the inbox can be a nightmare sometimes.

This is as easy as this.

Single opt in = more leads, low quality!

Double optin = less leads, High quality and recommended for marketing.

It depends on the growth of the list and the amount/quality of traffic you're getting. If you're using free traffic then just forget about it, those emails will be worthless and doesn't worth trying.

Paid traffic? good to go but must be targeted and yes Double opt in always work for that!

Your never know for sure but testing will give you the answer for your business. Remember when I was a young salesman starting out. I was living in Troy Michigan a suburb of Detroit. I was responsible for Michigan, Indiana, Ohio, and Kentucky.

Everyone that I to talk to gave me the same song and dance, that is, no business in Kentucky. They were a bunch of rednecks who wouldn't buy anything. So, I had a conversation with my Dad. And he told me to go down there and see for yourself.

Long story short, I listen to him and made a trip to Lexington and Louisville and closed the biggest deal of my life, brought a new house, 2 new cars.

Test it for yourself and let us know how you make out.

I always go with the single opt-in option. If you're ready to lose 40% of your list due to unconfirmed subscribers then go ahead with double opt-in.

To me it makes no difference unless someone decides to spoof your squeeze pages with fake emails. That is the only risk you'll every face using single opt-in.

In my experience it depends on the niche. In some niches where the subscribers are desperate and need there problem solved there and then I normally use single opt in. You can lose a lot of leads by going double(at least in some niches)
