Email Marketing: The craziest unsub page ever!.

Showing you care EVEN when people opt out of your email list makes an impression. I've un-subbed from a lot of email lists in the past decade but I've yet to see something like this after the fact.

Either someone has too much time on their hands or they want to demonstrate a genuine appreciation. Either way I think it's cool. I'm more interested in what you folks think.

See the 52 second email break up video from hubspot on this page

I think it's cool not just because its funny, but because it does step them away from the pack and leave you with a better taste in your mouth at a time when your opinion of them is the lowest - when you've just left them.

I think its smart marketing.

So what do you think?

Over the top or right on spot?

It's interesting for sure but I 'm not certain what marketing purpose
it serves since people see this AFTER they unsubscribed. Would they
subscribe again to unsubscribe so they can see the message again?

    It is funny for sure.

That is awesome! If I were unsubscribing, I probably wouldn't bother clicking the play button on the video, but if I did, I'd be tempted to sign back up. Maybe the marketing angle is to endear you enough to hook up with them via one of the social media icons so they don't lose your potential business altogether.

I don't think it's a bad idea. Worst case scenario they unsubscribe and don't opt to follow you on another platform. Maybe a few people will change their mind and resubscribe. But, I would think they pick up at least a few unsubscribes on another platform.

Ha. Forget what I originally posted. Didn't even see there was a video.

    Yeah, it's pretty good.

The AppSumo one is pretty good too and still worth a look. You'll have to sub and unsub if you want to see it...

      So funny,

that guy is a born winner. He has what it takes imho. He created a real 'no-hard-feelings' feel-good moment out of someones desire to get away from him asap.

Boy, I wish I was as good as him

    I don't know.

If people don't want to be on your list is it really worth trying to save them?

I'd rather just have people who want to be on my list.

People do unsubscribe for all kinds of reasons and
some could just be unsubscribing to a lot of lists
because they're getting too much email (for example).

I think an exit offer of some kind is probably a good
      idea (they're going anyway).

But the tone of that offer is going to be important.

If they're pissed at you for something you wrote a
video like this is probably going to make it worse.

If they're unsubscribing for reasons that aren't
directly related to you or your emails and if the
tone of your emails and content matches this
video then it's probably a great idea.

      Kindest regards,

        One other interesting idea.

If you give them some options as to why they're
unsubscribing you might be able to get them to
subscribe to something that's more appropriate
        for them.

        For example:

Too many emails? Join our one email a month list or
our one email a fortnight list.

LOL that will definitely make me laugh.. Haha! if I come across it.

A guy sobbing will be a nice trick too to get your potential unsubs back..

Thats pretty funny made me laugh for sure. I would make that video autoplay though because if I unsubscribed I wouldn't go click play.

I wonder if he gets some people to come back just because of that I know I probably would.

When someone unsubscribes from your list there are
many possible reasons for them doing that.

Enter the conversation that's likely already going on in
their head and then create an unsubscribe page that
shows empathy with them and create an appropriate
      response.

I think the HubSpot unsubscribe page is a good idea
and they're NOT asking you to re-join their list: They're
making a different offer to ask you to connect with
them on social media (which may then lead you to
rejoin their list at a later date).

However, I'm not too keen on the HubSpot video as
it comes across to me as insincere.

When someone unsubscribes from your list, they're
effectively saying... "I don't want to hear from you
in the way that you're currently communicating with
      me."

So, offer them a different way to continue the
      relationship with you.

E.g. Different channels, different e-mail frequency,
different format, different subject or even a feedback
form for them to let you know their reasons for leaving.

Then let the recent unsubscriber decide if they'd like
to leave for good or start in a new way.

If you have a more empathetic unsubscribe page, at
least you'll leave a good impression on the way out
OR refresh and continue the relationship.

It's better than having some banal "You have been
unsubscribed" message that most other people have.

      Dedicated to mutual success,

      Shaun
