How Many Hours/Day...

How many hours per day would you say you HONESTLY spend on your internet marketing business?

I'm going to be honest and have to say less than an hour/day... I've kind of "lost" the motivation... trying to get it back though because I know my site/business still has a lot of work to be done before it's fully ready to be "promoted" and before I should seriously start driving traffic.

2nd question: What motivates you?

I find it EXTREMELY hard working for myself... especially because I have no boss or real structure in my IM ventures... I have nobody telling me exactly what I need to do everyday and for how long. I find that is the most difficult part about being in the IM field. How do you guys overcome this struggle and know exactly what to do everyday... even though there maybe is no true answer in what it is you need to do everyday? It may be all up to interpretation. How do you know what to do everyday?

Thanks!

I spend about 3 or so hours a day.

I procrastinate a lot too and I agree that it is the hardest part to overcome for me as well. I usually just set a goal for myself for the end of the day. I use a planner to organize and I write out exactly what I plan to do for the day. Some of the times it doesn't really work, but it helps me sometimes lol.

I completely agree with this . It is the same case with me... even i am not sure what to do and how to proceed in the right path since there is no one to guide. I sit to do something and my eye goes seeing something and my task gets pending... Trying to concentrate at-least 3-4 hrs per day seriously to earn something...

Its a very good idea to have a planner so that certain tasks can be put under a deadline and we can complete them...

I would have thought that being a member of WF for 18 months would have enlightened you by now as to the huge benefits of the search facility. There are numerous threads you can browse, specific to your questions:

How many hours do you spend on IM?

      What motivates you?

As far as the motivation aspect is concerned, I don't think I'd be motivated at all if I had to resort to selling articles for $5. If you're THAT good at writing then you should be doing things different. I wrote about this in a previous thread . . . . .

I might have joined the forum 18 months ago... but I've only been an "active" member the last 2-3 months... so although I've learned a lot by reading and interacting, I still have a lot more to learn!

And regarding this, "I don't think I'd be motivated at all if I had to resort to selling articles for $5"

The bottom line is... it's better than nothing! I'm currently unemployed and feel as though I have an above average talent for writing... so if I get paid $4/article (after fiverr's cut) than so be it. You have to start somewhere! I'm honestly hoping to build positive reviews & ratings so I can charge $5/250 word article.

PS: I will definitely check out the links you've provided, thanks!

I have to tell you... I am not an internet marketer in the same sense as many on this board. I haven't made thousands per day with X affiliate or Y program. Honestly, I don't really know if they even work and I am coming here for inspiration and information. I have had some decent ventures over the years, but never the THING where something clicks and I get a real big win.

I also get demotivated at times. It can be depressing. It can suck the wind out of your progress.

BUT..... Keep trying. I have had some real losers in my time, but it seems that over time I am making progress and each thing I do is a wee bit more narrowed down. Now, I am still making losers, but my winners are getting bigger. That keeps me going as time goes on. That drive... that desire... that absolute passion for finding that thing that gets you out of HAVING to do anything. That keeps me going.

At the minute, just like a normal job, 8 hours a day. However, soon i'll be cutting that down and hiring others to take on more of my work, so i have more time to spend with the family. After all it's why i wanted to be my own boss!

Yup, this describes me completely. Sometimes, I work throughout the day, and sometimes, I'm more interested in watching movies, and there is college too.

So yeah, it depends, but I only allot myself so much work to do per day; that hardly takes 1 or 2 hours (unless I'm providing a freelance service on a deadline), so anything that I do beyond that is bonus really.

Around 5 hours each day, 5 days a week, is usually enough for me. Any longer than this and I begin to lose focus and start on other projects, before I know it I've done nothing productive. So yeah, 5 hours works for me

I work from 9am till about 4pm, that's the actual working hours.
However, I always have my business on my shoulders, even when
I'm at home or on vacation.

That is something I need to change, outsource some of the work
would be a big plus and I'm working on setting that up very soon.

However, you asked what motivates us. You should definitely START
your day by going over your goals, read them out-loud, imagine yourself
    already having achieved those goals.

If you don't have any goals, well, you need to set some, if you don't
how do you know where you're going anyway?

That will motivate you and keep you focused during the day.

Also, reading personal development books or listening to audio programs
will definitely motivate you. Here are some authors and books I've been
    reading and following recently.

Think and Grow Rich - Napoleon Hill
Secrets of the Millionaire Mind - T. Harv Eker
Everything by Brian Tracy, books or audio programs

This is exactly what I was about to say. There's an awesome video on youtube with John Reese and Tony Robbins which goes over the importance of a little mind conditioning every day. You'll find it easily if you search.

To the first question, When I was a struggling marketer I can definitely relate to what you said, Because you have no solid structure for your business and try to go at it alone I was there so I know what your talking about whole heartedly..

I would have to say I spend between 2-4 hours per day on my Business, You see how I said ON?? You know at first its going to take some initial work "IN" your business stuff like building your Funnels, Products, Follow Ups etc., and that is where most people fail is they are literally to lazy to do the work..

I keep my business model SIMPLE, Business is not hard it's just that with alot of crap that's being shoved down Newbie Marketers throats it's no wonder they give up....

My best advice to you is getting a better structure for your business and you can learn all that by hiring a Mentor/Coach... Now Coach's are not cheap and If you can find the right Coach you will fast track your success and get out of the dreaded Shiny Object Syndrome...

Think of it this way, Your looking at around $500 for a good solid coaching program and YEA thats alot of money to dish out but look at it this way all the money you are spending on ebooks that is just collecting dust on your hard drive then that money can be used to hire a Coach...

There is plenty of Coaches here on the Warrior Forum and I have been through a Few Coaching Programs but Id have to say the top 3 coaching programs that I went through without a doubt is Alex Jeffreys Coaching, MAGIC Mikes Coaching and Dave Nicholson's Coaching...

Do your research on Coaches before you invest and trust me once you find the coach that best fits your needs and business goals, It's Just a matter of taking action on the PROVEN System's these Coaches will Teach you...

Now to the 2nd Question of what Motivates me!!! I'd have to say it is getting up everyday KNOWING I am my own boss and WILL NEVER Work for anyone else again and Knowing that I will Profit every day and by profit I mean a helluva lot more than any JOB I could ever work for anyone else...

Be Consistent, Hire A Coach, Take Action on What your Coach Teaches you and you will be set...

Thanks a bunch! I actually did hire a coach... well kind of. I'm part of a collective group of people who are seeking online help from coby wright He's an active member on this site and he's helped me a bunch. He offers a fantastic monthly membership to his site which has valuable IM techniques... but I guess it comes down to laziness. I'm pretty lazy and although I've watched almost every one of his videos... I've had a huge lack of action on my part which is deterring me from my ultimate goal at making money online. I know I just need to stay focused and take action everyday... but I swear it's so much easier said than done :/

There's no such thing as "above average talent". Your're either a good writer or not. Good writers are always in demand and make top money, whilst bad, poor, or average writers, don't.

Anyone can throw up a decent website in no time these days, and it's YOUR content that will make or break it. You say you're a good writer, well that gives you a tremendous advantage over the multitude who don't know a verb from a noun, and can't string cohesive sentences together. There's a million and one topics out there just waiting for the magic of your pen.

Good writers don't say things like:

That just about sums up the level of your ambition. Full of resignation and remorse for yourself. If it's just motivation you need then you're in the wrong forum. Try here:

Mind Warriors - Success, Power, Self-Improvement

I know of a crippled war veteran, a single mother living with children in one room, a 15 year old girl whose parents were killed in a car accident, a lady with terminal cancer, and a 92 year old man with one leg. Do you know what they've all got in common?

        I'll tell you . . .

They are all writers. They are all good writers. They all quietly get on with doing what they do best. And none of them feel sorry for themselves.

Maybe you're not a good writer. Maybe it's all in your mind.

I don't think you need a coach. If you have a coach and you are lazy there is really no point in having a coach. There is no amount of help/advice a coach can give you if you are not willing to put in the hours into your business. You are the only one who can do anything to help your venture.

Have you tried making a list of things to get through for the day? I make an extensive planned for the week.

Alternatively, instead of spending a specific set amount of hours a day why do you not just try to do one/two things a day that will actually benefit your business. Like trying to drive traffic or coming out with a new article/blog post.

    Hi,

When you have a system in place you'll never need to ask yourself
any questions like you have already done so.

You can automate as much as possible if you are using "List Building"
    as your main business model.

This allows your autoresponder messages to do all the marketing,
promoting, building relationships with potential customers etc for you.

Of course you have to set these messages up first but once you know you
have a solid messaging system in place, you just need to focus most of
time driving traffic and allow your system to do all the hard work for you.

This way you will find yourself making sales even when your not even at your
    computer/working etc.

    All the best
    Gavin

What should motivate you is that what you put into your actions you should get back ten times more then a JOB...

I still work, but outsource my writing for kindle books. I only spend an hour or so per day and I'm lazy with that sometimes I'll admit. But after just over 1-1/2 years my monthly income is averaging around $6K. I am working towards a goal of over $10K per month and then decide if I should quit as the only thing holding me back is health insurance coverage :-) .

But my moral is that I could never make that much at work for the little hours I do commit to it...

I typically work until I get everything accomplished in that particular day. It may take 2 hours or 14 hours like someone else stated. It sounds like you need more structure than anything else. Make yourself out a list of things you want to get done and then stick to the list. Don't fade off into Twitter/Facebook or anything like that. If you need to then schedule some time for breaks and such.

I spend 4 hours a day on my Internet Business. To me, that is full time. I work everyday but not all day. I work 45 minutes at a time, then take a break. Walk the dog, run earns, or play nine holes.

I'm assuming you mean sitting in front of the computer. I think about the business all the time...even when I'm walking the dog and playing golf. But I'm past the point of sitting in front of computer 12 hours a day.

Don't get me wrong. Sometimes when I'm work on a project I spend all day on that. But I try to eliminate that by outsourcing the technical stuff.

I will say that it depends on the earnings potential and the energy to reach that target in a day. Some people make 10K in 1 hour and some $20 in 4 hours, this is the difference. Your satisfaction with money earned manages your daily working hours.

As You asked how much time I work online, I would say I don't have fixed time. It depends on my mood here, Sometimes about 1 hour to get decent profits and sometimes the whole day to conquer the empire. maybe around 1-3 hours.

I currently am working on my business about 8 hours a day. I find this business very interesting and I learn something new every day - so it is hard to get off the computer

As far as what motivates me -- is thinking about the people who have to wake up early, drove to work in rush hour traffic, then do a job they don't like with a boss telling them what to do.

If you have your own online business, you can...
    Wake up when you want
Work from anywhere you want as long as there is an internet connection
You are your own boss - which results in your earning potential being limitless.

So I would say if you are having trouble motivating yourself -- think back to the beginning to why you wanted to start an online business to begin with.

I like writing for my client but I am not that enthusiastic about marketing my blog. I don't do it religiously but a typical day writing for my clients would be about 4 to 5 hours. Sometimes, I'll do a longer stretch depending on the topic I need to write about.

I do need to add another 1 to 2 hours daily to get more traffic but I am also studying for a PHD so that's not always possible.

    Thanks!
If you have less than 1 hour per day then that hour has to be maximized as best as you can. If you can afford to maybe get some tasks outsourced either through fiverr or odesk.

what motivates me is having my goal right in front of me. For example, I want to get a Dodge charger RT so I would have a picture of my goal everywhere I work and everywhere I am. I have the picture of that car on my desktop computer as the background and on my cell phone as the background. By constantly reminding yourself of your goal it pushes you to work hard at it. When you lose sight of your goal that is when motivation becomes challenging.

I spend maybe 2-3 hours a day on it.

But it is not a full time income - I have a blog, and a few info products, a couple of affiliate sites and that is it.

Sometimes I dont do anything for days.

It varies. Some days I spend only 20 minutes. Some other days maybe a couple of hours.

I spend about 3 hours per day on my internet business - and that's just free marketing. I could honestly only work about 30 minutes per day if i let my paid advertising run on autopilot, but i like free marketing because it's easy - and it makes me more money for free.

What motivates me? Money, leisure... and more money. Waking up to sales in your inbox everyday never gets tiring.

Seriously, though, I spend 6-10 hours at this point. A lot of that is reading and learning, and getting my website renovated, which has proven to be a much larger project than I anticipated. Actual time spent trying to make money, probably 2 hours per day.

I spend about 8 hours a day doing IM, I enjoy it almost every day until I get stuck with a techie problem. Causing me stress and lack of creativity and eventually motivation. So I learned to steer clear from the real nitty gritty and outsource the things that shift my focus from real marketing.

To answer your 2nd question I would hire a coach if I were you, I'm in a coaching program and just about 3 hours ago I lost track of where I was heading and got a bit depressed. Until 1 hour later where I got to participate in an interactive seminar. I started asking question and he really showed me the light at the end of the tunnel.
IMO a coaching program is the fastest and most efficient way to help you build your online business.

My motivation comes from setting my goals effectively for 1 year, 90 days, 1 month and the next week. I always try to plan the whole day the evening before and make a checklist so I don't get lost on the internet. I've made a personal bucket list of all the things I still want to do in life (some of them very emotional) this helps me even more.
Then after those periods I look back to admire what I have accomplished so far, and heck be thankful for it!

Partnering with other people that do IM and live in your close vicinity can also be helpful.

It depends what needs to be accomplished that day. I do not have a set schedule of 8 hours/day 5 days a week.

Some days I may not work at all, or just do some minor maintenance at about 30-60 minutes.

Then there are times when I'm working 16+ hours a day, multiple days in a row.

I stay motivated because I enjoy it. If I didn't enjoy it, I'd go elsewhere.

I've spent 12+ hours a day for the last 14 years online fulltime and am one of the top guys in my industry. I do it all myself. And remarkably still have time for family, working out and fun now and then. And posting on wf too lol. What motivates me is being able to help others become more successful, which in turn helps me grow my business. Good question.

It really depends on how I feel that day. Some days I will put in 8 hours or more while other days I will only work for an hour if that.

Yes it is hard to know exactly what to do. I try to set one important task per day to make sure it gets done. Then work on another. This way you get a result.

Currently I only spend a few hours a week working on my business. However, for the first year or so I was working 8-24 hours nearly every day...

My motivation was freedom. I knew that if I could spend time working my butt off that in the end I'd have the freedom I truly wanted. For me, it's not about the money. It's about not having a "boss" to answer to. Being able to set my own schedule and wake up when I want. (I haven't owned an alarm clock for over three years now).

However, I still struggle with the same issues as you. I will get "burned out" and lose motivation...

What helps pull me back is my students. I'll get an email (like the one you sent me Sarah) and it reminds me why we do this. I get excited when I get an email from a student saying they made their first (or 20th) sale/client/product, etc.

Another thing that helps me get back into "work" mode is actually taking time away from work. Finding things outside - away from the computer - that let me enjoy what I've worked so hard for.

As you may know, I'm also a part time semi-pro poker player. So when I get burned out at Internet Marketing I can take a week or two off and go play some poker tournaments and then I'm refreshed and ready to get back to IM.

The key is to make goals for yourself and remind yourself of them constantly. Put them next to the computer, bathroom mirror, fridge, etc. Always tell yourself that this is YOUR business and YOUR life. Live it to the fullest - but don't let your business suffer.

If you have a hard time doing some of the "boring" tasks then you should consider looking for outsourcers to handle those tasks. You'll be surprised how much harder you work when you realize you have to pay someone else.

Remember you are the boss of your business and your life. Remember what makes you get up in the morning and use that as motivation to take your business to the next level so you can enjoy your life (and business) more.

Hope this helps and thanks for kinds words about the coaching.

    Cheers,
    Coby

OP - I know what you mean. But I really like this.

Sometimes I work like 14 hours straight - I know, not healthy. But if I'm really excited about something, I cannot stop (working on fixing this and finding balance).

Other times, like today - I just don't want to do anything. And that's fine. I just listen to music, walk around, travel or think about random stuff. Eventually, I know I'll be eager to get back to work.

The whole working for yourself thing can go both ways - it can be terrible because you don't have anyone telling you how long to work and on what OR it could be awesome because you're the one that gets to make all the decisions.

Kinda just depends how you look at it.

I put in a solid 8 hours per day actually working on my online
business. Part of that may be spent on the phone, a webinar,
Skype, etc., but it's all focused on growing my business.

When I'm working on a project that I really want to get done,
I may put in as many as 18 hours in a single day... I'm much
more demanding of myself than any boss could be.

I'm motivated to an extent by my plans to get several things
running very smoothly, and then turning much of my business
over to assistants, and spending a lot of time traveling
    the world... semi-retired.

I really don't need a lot of motivation. I enjoy what I'm doing,
and when I stop enjoying it, I'll stop doing it. Since I have
pensions and investments, I don't HAVE to work... I do it
    because I want to.

I put on average 12 hours a day simply because I enjoy what I am doing plus I am a full time Marketer.

When I am working on a new project I do not look at the hours, I just do as much as I can, virtually going to sleep when I can't keep my eyes open and starting again once I have sufficient rest...

At this moment in time I do not outsource much BUT If I do, I still put the hours simply because I do enjoy my computer!

I personally spend 2/3 hours on an average. Not work daily.

About second question I like to say u that You should try to build a professionalism in u. You should think yourself as the boss of ur IM project. You should plan about it, make schedule and take steps as a professional manager does.

    Hope ur success.

Some days as much as 6 hours or real work. You're right it is hard to stay motivated and focused. Especially when things aren't going well. I don't make much yet, but I'm trying. That kind of helps keep me motivated the thought "if I do this, it could result in a lot of sales and money." I try to schedule doing things Like i'll spend a certain amount of time on each task I have to do. Keeps me from getting distracted which happens so easily to me.

at first i spent 10 - 20 hours per day some days but these days i spend no where near that much time

the key is to create your own sales funnel so that all you then have to do is drive traffic to your squeeze page and you can then let your system take over from there

once you only have to focus on driving traffic things become so much easier and you are able to make so much more money and you will have a lot more time to yourself too

but of course it does take time and effort to get to that position but it's certainly worth it :-)
