Hosting affiliates (what is the best one?)

Hello,

I'm was kinda super-affiliate to dreamhost until they changed the signup process and everything else without informing their affiliates about it. I'm done with them, they are one hell of a bad company with extremely POOR affiliate/customer care. I just can't believe I promoted and made them sales.

Anyhow, what's my alternatives?

Hostgator - Good, reputable company, but I have heard things that they SCAM as well. At least there were many bad stories about their affiliate system in the past. For example, entered discount code or bought hosting through affiliate link, but no sales counted in.

Bluehost - Sounds reasonable as well, but they don't have discount codes and I have to mess with their "TAX" system.

..anything else? Semi-authority hosting companies to recommend?

Cheers,

I've read many recommendations for Hostgator, but NOT working with them directly. Find their program on CJ (Commission Junction) and sign up with that. It's controlled by CJ and Hostgator can't pull any tricks.

And also remember, pretty much all of the "top paying" affiliate hosting companies are owned by the same parent company; EIG, which doesn't have the best of reputations..

It depends on what you're looking for. Are you looking out for your customers and trying to refer them to a good quality, top-notch service or are you just looking to make as much money for yourself?

Let's think about something here. You've already mentioned problems with both companies and their programs however, you'd still refer people to those companies even though a 3rd party affiliate program such as Commission Junction. Personally, if I was getting screwed over by the company, I wouldn't refer anyone even through an external party.

I'm not saying that Hostgator and Bluehost are bad hosting companies.. No-no. They are actually good and I have used them both, BUT their affiliate system sucks. That's all.

Hostgator is ok just be prepared to have a lot of invalid commisions. They have strict rules about which ones they will payout for. I never liked dreamhost anyways. The first page of Google is full of affiliates advertising the max discount $97 (which pays you nothing from my understanding) and its hard to compete with that. Bluehost is a very good choice me and just about everyone else I have come across is happy with there affiliate system and payouts. I think Hosmonster,Bluehost,Justhost and some others are all ran by EIG so they may be good for affiliates also. Although I have not heard good things about there hosting.

        This is also good advice.

Oh yea, I understand that. I'm not saying they are either, but if you, as an affiliate, which is why those companies are the size they are, are screwing you over would you really feel comfortable to continuing to refer customers? I sure wouldn't. If their shady practices are in one department they'll spread to the others.

If you refer a customer, you get paid. End of story. If I recall, the referred customer must purchase an annual package in order for the affiliate to get paid. I could be wrong, but I remember reading this somewhere. Or they have to be there a year or something like that.

If you refer me to a company, I sign up, then 3 months down the road decide I don't want it anymore, you, the referrer should not be penalized. That's b/s and is typical corporate scamming.

I'd suggest you look into promoting smaller companies that have a more personable approach and not the snake-in-the-grass approach.

I have an even lower opinion of them than I have of GoDaddy, and that's really saying something.

If I wanted to promote hosting as an affiliate, I wouldn't hesitate to promote Hostgator through Commission Junction as Anne suggested (and I say that as a longstanding Hostgator customer, myself). I wouldn't be willing to promote them "directly", though, because however much I like and appreciate both their hosting and their customer service, I've heard too many worrying things, from far too many different sources, about their affiliate set-up (none of which apparently apply to the CJ deal).

Personally, I'd look at JustHost before Bluehost, but that's based solely on second-hand information: I've had no dealings with either.

        Thanks Alexa,

So, what you are saying is that I should use a "middleman" (CJ) not HostGator itself, right?

Well, I did a quick search on this forum and this popped out: http://www.warriorforum.com/ad-netwo...mmissions.html

As a matter of fact, this guy was using CJ as a middleman and was still getting ripped off, so I just don't know what to think anymore...

Is there anyone who have actually have a good feedback for hostgator affiliate system?

Eew, haven't heard that one before.

Mind you, with a company/affiliate program the size of that one, there are bound to be some bad reports, I suppose? It's all a bit "interpretative". You have to try to weigh up the preponderance of second-hand information?

I would recommend hostzilla. They have great hosting , pay out quick, and convert great. They also offer incentives to people to sign up.

Uhm, I think I pass this one.
Their affiliate page is unavailable: https://secure.hostzilla.com/affiliates.php
And they haven't updated their footer for long time. Hint: Copyright 2011-2012 HostZilla Limited

      But thanks anyway :p
