Internet Marketing Strategies on a Budget

Hi there,

Really keen to hear views on successful internet marketing strategies that can be done on the cheap?

I run a small business and my budgets are very tight, however I really want to ramp up my internet marketing a notch?

I have a Facebook page and wondered what peoples views are on Facebook ads, and also content marketing like blog posting or even press releases as I have a good email database?

Any other suggestions would be good.

Thanks in advance

Facebook ads are very good but you need to target right people. Analyze all your ads, check the insights regularly and learn from it... once you target right people, facebook ads can be very beneficial ...

Concentrate on seo! There are several excellent free tutorials that can get you started. Also, constantly churn good content. Facebook might work out as an inexpensive option...or it might not. SEO never goes away!

Don't focus on a single traffic source. Learn how to be profitable with SEO, PPC, social media and so on. I would say that you should first invest on your education. Get a good mentor or buy a couple of marketing books. If you just start with SEO or PPC without any real knowledge you will just waste a lot of time and money.

Inexpensive strategies: Submit the website to social bookmarking websites. Ping the website using Ping-o-Matic!. Create a blogger blog and link to your website inside your first post on that blog. Ping the blog. Have a press release made for cheap online and submit it to press release distributors online. Have an article written about the business and submit it to various websites. Put a video on youtube. Submit classified ad to Craigslist. Sign up for niche related forum and put your websites URL in your signature and make a few posts. Create an internet radio show and create a Twitter account

Hi David, it does change the game a bit.

We like to think our clients use us as a source of advice and support on all of the numerous and challenging issues facing them - whether as an entrepreneur starting up a new business or as an owner steering an established business through change, growth and development.

So we are looking to attract small (to medium sized businesses) that are at a major crossroad and need help to take decisive action within our local area - York, North Yorkshire and East Riding (UK).

I've been told to use LinkedIn - what are your immediate thoughts?

Just going back to your comment Ross - just set to work on my website - hopefully an improvement on last time you looked. Taking your advice I've created a squeeze page that offers free consultation in an attempt to build my list.

Thanks for ALL your comments everyone.

I've had luck with viral marketing.

Make a product with master resale rights, and submit it to memberships sites.

Most think that market is beneath them, a fact that I'm eternally grateful for.

very cool domain name, by the way

P.S. Don't forget to put a call to action to join you list in your ebook/product. I've seen literally dozens of good ebooks on list building, and none of them had an invitation to join their list

        Hi Zoe,

The master resale rights market is one of the oldest in the IM or MMO niche, and it's long been abandoned by the top names in the field. That is a plus, fight the battles you can win, and do not fight (market) on someone else's terms.

Picking a topic to write about requires the use of strategy.

Say for example, if you wanted to write about twitter, facebook, or wordpress. It's probably best to study sociology, and package the info in a way that would be useful to internet marketers who use such sites.

You're approaching the topic from an unusual direction or perspective. It'll give you a tremendous advantage over your competitors and build your brand at the same time, along with giving you a strong unique selling position.

Graphics are important in the master resale rights niche, people like to proudly display what they have to offer. I can do that for you if you want, at no charge. Cash that favor (favour) in anytime you want.

Getting your product (viral ebook) out in the market isn't too tough either. The best place I found are...

6347+ PLR products, eBooks, Software, Videos and Articles
Internet Marketing Business Products | Private Label Rights
Ebooks, Software, and Videos With Resell Rights

(note to moderators: those are not my sites, they are not my affiliate links, I don't know the owners of those sites, and they don't know me )

And of course there is the warrior forum, I'd submit it to the "war room". Admin has moderators who will reject it if it doesn't meet their quality standards, though.

After that, email membership site owners and ask them to put your ebook in their site.

After you start building your list, you can branch out into jvgiveaways, ad-swaps and such.

Doing it cheap means that you follow what you have set for the budget. say, you budget $50 for Facebook ad, after this campaign had run and no conversion is seen. that means you have to come up with another strategy and not continue what is proofed not working. this way, you should be saving some money.

For me personally, i was lucky to have a business that support me to run my online business.
After 2 years of learning and buying endless course to make money online, now i become a
full time internet marketer and hire someone to run my offline business.

I can't said anything about getting traffic from any paid traffic source like PPC, PPV or media
buying cause like you said a we run a business and we need to stay on a budget. So what i did
is in the last 2 years, i focus on learning SEO because unlike paid traffic, SEO is cheaper.

With paid traffic we must paid for every click or traffic we are getting, but with SEO.. When we
rank at top 10 of google, the traffic come by it self and it's FREE.

Yeah.. yeah... i must said, there is a expense involve, like buy a seo tool but you don;t have to
paid it daily. You can buy a one time seo tool to keep your expense on budget.

I just help my brother who totally newbie to start his online business 3 month ago, and he just
spend around $300 to start, buy the hosting and seo tool i recommend. Now he was earning
around $900 last month. Plus, since we both use seo, our expense was under $200 each month.

If you don't like SEO, you may start by learning how to make a success FB Page. I see many
internet marketer doing that and they are doing good.

Facebook ads are good, but they can become costly depending upon your demographics selection and targeted audience. My suggestion would be not to pin point your marketing strategies to one place. Diversify it, go for media buys, PPC with small budget and also focus on SEO to bring in some organic traffic.

FACEBOOK, pdf's and maybe cheaper PPC like adcenter and 7search.

Its about working smarter not harder. If you know what I mean.

still in all our testing, and everything we do, be that FREE traffic or PAID traffic nothing works better than building your list, and promoting stuff to that list. Yes even in 2013 when everyone is saying listbuilding does not work, and not to list build cause its just SPAM....LOL.....that is bullchit!!! lol.

Building list on a budget, small budget or putting in the hard yards with free traffic will give you tremendous results. I guarentee it. The info I just gave in this post is what we sell in a box for like $97.... I do not normally share it, but did today because about 2% of the people reading these posts in here today, including my one will read it, and go "wow! this is killer stuff, I need to do that" but they will NEVER EVER DO IT, trust me.

SO do not be that person that says, wow, awesome I need to do that, just put everything down, turn the tv off, get the nagging housewife out of the house, take the barking dog away and sit at your computer and do not leave till you get it done.

Simple as that, ACTION gives you lots of results and LEVERAGE for stuff later.

    So get to work. :-)

P.S. Oh did I say nagging housewife. I meant to say............ oh .... to hell with it, that is what us men get sometimes. LOL.

This is really good to hear because I've just become a student of Matt Bacak's for those of you that don't know - because I really didn't until I attended a summit in London a couple of months ago - he's like an internet marketing god!

This is also interesting as Matt Bacak's main strategy is list building and this is what I am concentrating on at the moment for all my sites.

Not sure if you should have a site about internet marketing if you dont know basic internet marketing strategies. You're on an internet marketing forum now, so this is a good place to promote your products and services. There are a ton of free marketing strategies that are effective... forums, blogging, blog commenting, article marketing/syndication, seo, youtube, press releases, etc.

    Hi Zoe,

Looking at your site http://www.logikons.co.uk/ what do you recommend to other businesses?

I'm assuming that you are looking at attracting regional / local clients?

I would start with your own site, getting a downloadable free report for local businesses - "how to avoid getting ripped off by local website companies" is a good start.

Build your list. Driving traffic to your site at the moment will be unlikely to help with your conversions.

Secondly I would invest in yourself. There are a lot of outstanding materials out there that would put you head and shoulders above 99% of all other local internet companes immediately.

      Hi Ross,

There is a bit of history here - I do in fact have an IT background but I only got into the online stuff late last year. Logikons was formed originally to do business with a Turkish company and it still does. But I started doing a bit of consultancy work for some local firms which put pressure on me to learn more about internet marketing. But through this Logikons has evolved into a business support, advisory, mentoring practice for SME's. Logikons now employs a number of experienced professionals ad hoc. My Logikons site does need serious attention I'm quite embarrassed you've looked it up - there's no SEO or anything on it - it was just put together very quickly when I was learning how to build sites using WordPress. So far we have been working from word of mouth so the website has been neglected but it's on my list of to do's so watch this space.

      Thanks for your kind words.

If you don't have much money then you should have lots of time. When I started was working so money was not an issue. If you have a blog then post on a daily basis and find blogs in your niche and comment on them. Most importantly, learn how to pre-sell with articles and blog post until you make a little money.

      In the meantime good luck.

The first thing I'd suggest would be to join the War Room. As far as "cheap" or to get started so you have some cash to spend on hosting, domain names, education or what have you, do a search for Bum Marketing. There is info in the War Room that should get you started as well as info on Bum Marketing by Travis that should get you on your way. Try not to get too distracted and good luck!

If you have time to invest rather than money then content marketing is great for getting targeted traffic. I dont know about facebook ads - dont use them but writing content and submitting to high traffic sites that are relevant to your own niche works well. Also make sure you use that ttraffic to build your list so send them to your squeeze page in your bio.

Everyone has got to start somewhere chief. But maybe I wasn't clear about what I wanted to achieve here. My question arose because two of my clients who are small businesses need to exercise an internet marketing campaign on a very tight budget. A lot of the free marketing strategies you mention are extremely effective I agree but do not offer fast results. I guess my question should have been "internet marketing strategies on a budget that achieve fast results".

PS. I'm a recent student of Matt Bacak's and the internet marketing site you see in my signature is courtesy of Matt.

Hi Jacques, my personal experience here is when visitors land on your page give them something they want (for free of course) by getting them to subscribe via an opt-in form - this obviously builds your list - but use a good auto responder e.g. GetResponse. Helps if you are in a popular niche too because then you have lots of people searching for what you are offering and therefore you have lots of people that are more likely to subscribe!

    Hi Zoe,

From what I read above, you got some good advice.
One thing you might want to pay attention to:
most of SB-MSB owners aren't really educated/informed of benefits of doing on-line biz, marketing on-line, marketing in general in fact, although they usually think they are by repeating the motos and mantras they've heard somewhere. It's not entirely their fault, they worry about they businesses and spend time on it, and what's left of time they want to spend it with their families.

So what you need is healthy mix/combination of education (not too much) and marketing (on-site, off-site, in free reports, social media, PPC, etc.) crafted so to pin point the "neuralgic" pain points of your target market (could be done in free consultation session also), explain seamlessly way out/solution, and benefits of working with YOU, that is YOUR solutions are their solution (unique selling proposition). Everything else is an upgrade to the above.

You seem to be bright girl, and I wish you all the best in what you do!

    Veo

FB ads are great because like Seth Godin says in his book 'Permission Marketing' you want to get people to raise their hands who are interested in your business then you can inform them (not sell them) on why they need your product and then they will sell themselves because of the information you've given them.

also, you might want to try creating videos targeting long tail kw's.. the search volume might not be incredible on the longer tail kw's but you will be able to really target those you want. Just think, would you rather have 10 people super interested in what you're doing and pitching to them or 100 people that are just kind and will hear your pitch but not really interested? plus, people enjoy watching a good video rather than reading a bunch of text

Hello Zoe, great question. Social media, creating a newsletter, online givaways. All of these are free and thats the best part. Comes down to testing and conversions as well. My best advice is don't try to invest any money in advertising untill you can convert the free traffic. With facebook for instance, are you setting up a page? When choosing a name and doing anything online always keep keyword and SEO in mind especiall with social media these days. Who knows you migh just see an increase in traffic. You can really grow your list with list swaps but even with this it comes down to testing and finding the right person with the right list. You'll do it, just keep consistant and don't stop until you are doing it and most importanly be open to learn a change which you are.... Have a great day

    Hi Zoe,
I would recommend doing some contests and simple SEO, like you said you have a pretty good database of people who are already interested in your service/product, put that to some use. MailChimp is a free and easy way to create a email marketing campaign to get your message out to your clients. Also I would like to ad that blogging is the new way to engage with potential and current clients on a personable level. You have a platform that allows you to be educational about your products/services at the same time being yourself. Wordpress.org and Wordpress.com are great platforms for blogging and it's fun, easy, cheap and or free to customize and personalize for your business. You mentioned already being on FB, but are you on other platforms such as pinterest, reddit, google+ etc..? There are many free and easy ways to engage and promote your business. You just have to put yourself out there.
    Hope that helps.
