Howdy,

This is no secret, but it's still the #1 MAIN PROBLEM in my opinion...

The main problem marketers make is most of them (not all) never focus on ONE thing... (ONE system) all the way through to the end. HECK, most all of us, even experienced folks battle this. IT'S EVERYWHERE!! lol

However, magical things happen when we stick to one thing. WE GET BETTER at that one thing. Our conversions get better, our traffic gets better, our product gets better, our customer service gets better, our tech gets better, our testing gets better, our tracking gets better, our relationships and alliances get better, our branding in the market gets better...

EVERYTHING GETS BETTER.

We reach momentum! We reach a point where things become EASY! At first, it's hard... real hard... but when you reach momentum it becomes easier and easier. Everything is connected!

Yet, sticking to one thing (one system or sales process) almost never happens with most people who are failing. They "drift" from one thing to the next... bouncing around... coasting... going through the motions... sort of half-$$$ing everything with very little conviction... just sort of, you know, taking up space.

One can toss-up some PPC and throw $15 at it and then lose that $15 and call PPC broken, bad, wrong, a mistake and that guru is a liar!! Then imagine sticking to that one thing for months... that one PPC campaign for months! Can you imagine? How could anyone fail then?

So, public enemy number one IMO is: Most people bounce around so much, so often, from one thing to the next, drifting along, coasting along that they never get any good at one thing... at least not good enough to make lots and lots of money.

However, those who stick to one thing get better and better and better, making more money easier. Again, the "quick fix" rarely works and is an illusion meant to distract you from "persistence"

It is the Number One problem Eric and it will ALWAYS be the Number One problem for one simple reason.......

    People want cash yesterday.

And when they don't get it after spending a few hours on it, they move to something else in the misguided beleif that there is quicker and easier money to be made elsewhere.

I guess it is a bit like losing weight - if you go from one diet to another diet, you will never lose weight. If you stick to ONE diet for a prolonged period of time then you will start to see results.

I agree, people want to learn a scheme instead of a skill. And forget to respect the fact they are learning a skill.

Like learning a instrument their niche/products takes growth over time.

Jumping around makes this impossible, it is like playing a new instrument every day. :p

I tell people this all the time.

Sticking to one thing is important.

If you are selling a business opportunity for example, you still need to test things out in terms of who is getting you the best traffic and traffic that actually converts.

You need to test things out and see which strategy or strategies work best for you.

Is it their fault with all those "easy cash systems" out there?

Lack of of focus is MY biggest enemy to and it's a daily battle to conker distraction. She anyhow wins most of the times ;-)

It's just that quick cash, part time, while doing nothing sounds so appealing compared to the alternative. You read these sales letters, and they get you curious if it's true.

Of course, it is true. But getting up to that point requires hard work, dedication, and as you said, persistence. Most people give up on MOST of what they start doing...

    Whether it works or not.

    Just the way it is.

I completely agree! As mentioned people want cash NOW and not prepared to work NOW and reap the rewards later.

To print money you need to build the goddamn machine FIRST I.E build your sales system, test it, tweak it! And nail it down to a specific outcome. After that you will see money made on auto-pilot

It's difficult in the beginning also because you feel like you might be "missing out" on something "revolutionary" if you don't keep up with the new products/systems that are all touted as "game changers", and the promoters of course bank on that.

    Thanks OP.

    Wow, this is so true.

Yes, staying focused is something we all deal with.

I know for me, I always have a ton of new good ideas and then add to that the "new" ideas hitting my inbox everyday...It was a problem.

Until I really started doing something that I believed in...that changed everything for me.

    Excellent observations as always Eric.

For me, the solution to this problem was an accountability
partner. A coach would probably serve the same purpose.

My accountability partner and I decided upon overarching
goals that we each had, and then we gave each other permission
to point out to each other when w perceived the partner
being distracted or drifting off track.

With students I coach, and even customers who often email
me asking if they should buy a given product... during some
big product launch, I always ask how that fits in with goals
    that they have already set.

I find that too many people do buy things that they MIGHT
need someday, for fear of missing out on a good deal

Breaking that habit is often a good start... that and as I
already mentioned, being held accountable by a coach or
    an accountability partner.

I agree totally, but with one caveat . . .

You must be doing that one thing that will make you money.

There are lots of systems, courses, products and software that are supposed to work (in making money) that have very little chance of ever being successful.

If you choose one of them, and it doesn't work, sticking with it for the long haul is not a good idea.

Now you may say "this is so obvious" or everyone knows that!

I say, there are many people on this very forum right this minute that are employing systems, products, and procedures that have almost no chance of ever working.

      Good luck to all,

      Steve

It's a good point, Steve. Most of us starting out we were looking for that "one thing" to do to make money, but it's so easy to get caught up in the details.

I think it's because there isn't "one thing" that makes you money - but you still have to focus on one thing at a time to make that money. All of which have to work together to get the win.

That's the biggest problem. I don't know about everyone else, but it's pretty overwhelming at times. At first you create this awesome to do list, super excited... Then the next day you're like,

"Holy crap. Look at all the stuff there is to do!"

    It can be crazy.

There are so many systems available in the market and almost all of them represents themselves as the best, surefire method which makes the marketers puzzled. It becomes very hard to focus on only one thing. But most of the people who are now focused in one thing, they have been through the harass of systems (!!!).

For me it helped to compartmentalize I.M. as a whole. I mean there are a ton of different specialties, like cpa, niche site, email marketing, ppc, seo, etc, etc, etc. Some of these work together, but in the beginning it can be hard to see how it all fits together.

I also try to lower my expectations when it comes to systems and products. I know that while it might make the money it sometimes claims, I might learn something or get a different perspective on something I am doing. This alone can be worth the money a lot of times.

I also think we hurt ourselves with all the sales pages that promote this type of overnight success. But I guess if it weren't there, no one would make it to the buy button.
