Tips on promoting new membership site

Hi guys,

I've had a membership site in the pipeline for years and finally decided to do something about it. It is very close to the finish line with regards to content etc. and have Monday July the 1st as my launch date.

The subject is film making. I have only basic knowledge but am interviewing an expert and will interview a different expert each month. I have also used a combination of unique content in the form of articles (I write web content freelance for a living so am used to researching unfamiliar topics) and have used PLR for a report.

I am using PayPal for now as I wish to test the site before going through ClickBank's longer process and activation fee.

What I am mainly seeking advice on is promotion.

1) I am offering a $1 7-day trial then $17 a month. What do you guys think to that approach as I know a free trial is also popular. I've had the domain with a simple template, copy and inactive free trial button for years and have actually received a few emails from people saying that they tried to subscribe as a free member.

2) From what I have read, the best and quickest way to get started would be to approach potential JV partners and affiliates. What is the best way to find them? Would that simply be Clickbank for info product owners and Google for website owners? Is there a right and wrong way to approach them?

Thanks, Jackson

That is a good idea right there. As soon as you have ONE single customer, you know that you have a market and you should go through Clickbank because then you would have a bigger potential to get affiliates promoting for you.

If you are going to work with Clickbank and have affiliate promoting for you, you need to increase that monthly fee to at least $47. You can even offer it for higher price.

When you start to work with CB and have everything in place for affiliates, you will want to have an affiliate sign up form on your sales page at the bottom. That way, most of your visitors will know that they can earn money by promoting your product.

I found that charging for a trial will result in an easier and faster conversion to paying clients. Charging (even a dollar) also helps to establish the fact that your subscribers are able to actually pay via credit card or PayPal etc once they are convinced that your product is worth it.

Free trial subscribers can be converted as well, however in my experience it takes much longer. This can be for many reasons, including the fact that they may not even own a credit card, or they are not set up online via PayPal etc to make a payment, and in some cases they are not yet old enough to buy anything without mommies permission.

If someone has a problem in paying $1 to check out a niche membership site that is of interest to them, then you most likely will not convert them to a paying member anytime soon.

If you are going to approach Clickbank affiliates, it would help if you have your membership hooked up via Clickbank as well, this way they can simply plug in their ID and get going.

You can also launch a WSO and use the WSOpro system.

WSO Pro - The all-in-one WSO sale, delivery and management system | WarriorPlus

In either case, having a JV page or affiliate tools page ready is advisable.

PM me and tell me more about your site, I may have a JV offer for you.

Thanks guys, I thought I would go with PayDotCom to begin with.

I don't feel confident enough to justify charging $47 a month right now,I think that confidence will come from seeing subscribers. From there, I can add more content, such as software, which seems like a popular option in this niche.

However, that is a good point re: being signed up with ClickBank to attract their ebook sellers.

    How about 'fix term continuity"

    Like a semester ...

That's not a good idea, actually. I have semesters on there but there are four which total 2 years so quite a commitment
