Marketing plan for design crowdsoucing website

Hello,

I have started a website which offers design crowdsourcing. Short explanation for those who do not know the term crowdsourcing.
If you need something designed lets say a logo or a website you start a contest and put up an award of $ 150.-
Designers are now able to submit their desgins and you as the contest holder can choose a winner who gets the prize after you have received the files.

I am now in the matter of launching the site and I now thingking how to market the site.
I assume that PPC will not be really effective since this concept is not really easy to explain in one sentence.

How would you market this new service?

I have come up with some ideas but would be gratefull if you could give me some more suggestions or ideas.

My ideas are:

- Approaching blog owners who have small busines or webmaster traffic and ask them for a review.
- Starting a contest for a claim for the website and award something like $ 1.000.- (this could be another post for blog owners)
- Start an affiliate programm and recruit affiliates
- Advetise on webmaster / startup and small business forums
- Give a grant for WAHM
- Press releases

I welcome any feedback and suggestions from experience webmasters.

It might be good to make sure there are definite benefits to participating beyond the 1st prize (the money). As a new site, it might take some time to get to the point where people will put in a lot of time to do something where they payout for their work is zero. How do you intend to address this part?

thanks for your reply! And by the way I love your script bought it 2 years ago and set up a nice directory with it.

Yes I have thought about this point too. My idea was to offer some prizes for the designers who have contributed i.e. give away an Apple Mac Book or something that a designer would really like to have.
But I am still not sure what to award. To award the person who submitted to most designs? This would lead to alot of submissions of low quality. To give the prize to the person who won the most prizes? Well he already won the prize money....well I am sure I will find a solution.

Another idea I had was to find an open source community and team up with them and hold a free logo contest for them and pay for the prize...
