Where can a writer find good gigs?

Hey,

where can a US born-raised writer find good writing gigs? I'm looking for some pick ups through this month and pretty great with writing content, comes naturally.

I'm going to dedicate a few hours each day to this and want to find gigs that pay at last $2 per 100 words.

All help appreciated !Sites and whatever else.

Thanks!

You can probably take a look at writing gigs posted on classifieds sites... post your ad on forums (there's a section right here for warriors for hire). But if you want gigs that pay "at last $2 per 100 words", you should prove your worth to your employer. Starting from what you stand to make per 100 words, it's probably not a great start.

$2 per 100 words is a good gig?

In all seriousness, have you considered studying to become a copywriter... with either taken a course or just studying the best letters and dissecting them... learning sales writing?

You go from $2 per 100 words... to $500 to $1,000 per hour like many of the jobs I do.

If you can write... you can learn to become a copywriter and exponentially increase your earnings. Just a thought.

Good gigs are found by looking for good customers, and by having a website (however simple) which will gain business from good customers.

And by staying away from Odesk, Elance, and such places.

It's all about the markets in which you choose to compete.

There are no "good" customers paying $0.02 per word.

In the $0.02-per-word market, there are nearly as many service-providers as customers (and there are reasons for that, too), so that's actually the most competitive and difficult market in which to earn anything.

These posts/threads explain why, in some detail (and quite a bit of other stuff which may also interest and/or help you) ...

Make sure you understand the available markets clearly before trying to derive income from them: overall, it's rather a counter-intuitive market, for all the reasons explained in many of the posts/threads linked to above.

The difference between good writers who earn a lot of money and good writers who struggle is their marketing skills and understanding of the market.

    And good luck!

I have had the best luck finding gigs through forums. You should definitely post an ad in the Warriors for Hire section and try to collect a few reviews. Once you have a good amount of positive reviews, it won't be difficult to find clients, and you can always bump your thread to the top of the list whenever you want for 20$.

Another way to find gigs is to use Google and search for classified ads. For example, try searching for the keywords: "need content writer" or "looking for a content writer".

String together different keywords and you will find a lot of leads. I also had some luck with Facebook. Just use the search function of Facebook to search for "content writers" or something similar and you will find a few pages where people are looking for writers. Send your CV and samples over, and see what happens.

    I hope that helps.

Either way, in the long run, it is much better to create your own website and brand.

You can make a full time business writing articles for Warriors.

    1. Make a thread in Warriors For Hire

    2. Write some unique, punchy copy

    3. Give away 5-10 review copies and write the HELL out of them!

    4. Paste your reviews (use the "quotes" function or take a screenshot) towards the top of your thread.

    5. Increase your prices

That's exactly what I've done with my thread (check my sig). I put a lot of love into my writing and I have return customers who pay me what I'm worth. Screw writing for $0.02 a word, dude.

If you know you can write truly baller content, you should be charging commensurately. Also, this filters out low quality clients who want to wring you dry for peanuts. 500 words can take you several hours to write if it requires research (and it usually does). So shoot for the stars and you'll land among the...stars.
