For e-mail marketing, what really gets the highest open rate is relevant, to-the-point subject lines. Any kind of spammy subject line such as "get X for free" gets a lower open rate.

Can't assume bro.you gotta test because I have seen from my testing that those subject lines work really well.

I'm not assuming. The only exception is if your readers trust you completely in which case the subject line really doesn't matter that much (as long as it's something that interests them).

It's also worth noting that spammy-looking subject lines like some of the ones you propose - especially when they mention the recipient's name - generate the most complaints. Go ahead and run a split test.

I have never had a problem of spam complaints and they are all single optins. Anyway this was meant to help people out to crank their open rates so feel free to test these with your list whichever one sticks out to you.

I'd never open an email like this. If I did, and found it wasn't the greatest thing EVER, I'd unsubscribe immediately, or worse yet, send the message to my spam folder. Plus, you have to think about the impression you're leaving.

They're certainly not clever subject lines either. My highest open rate for a recent message was...

The shot guns, post office and free report

As you can see, I didn't hype anything up or make any promises. The subject line raises curiosity and the message was also interesting about a true story that happened a couple of days previous.

I also make sure the story is relevant to the "soft" teaching points I want my subscribers to come away with.

    One I wrote today was...

My new dentist left snot in my mouth (talk about a bad first impression)

That one is a little more risky, but the story is funny, as well as being completely relevant to the topic at hand which of course was about creating a very good first impression when a new subscriber reads your first piece of content.

No need to hype anything up. Entertain, but at the same time you should make your emails relevant. I think Ben Settle calls this "infotainment" or someth like that - and it keeps your subscribers wanting to keep reading your emails.

the added bonus is that you 'll obviously make more sales. With your approach, you will not make many repeat sales to your customers if you continue to over hype and under deliver. And believe it, if you say something is "The Best Thing EVER" enough times, you're most definitely gong to under deliver.

    Just a though.

For the first one a good scenario is perhaps a product that used to be $97 reduced to $27 then you can go with that subject link and your list will love you for it because they are saving so much money on a product that they wanted.

For the second one, needless to say you wont always use the same subject you would variate it for maximum results so if you said greatest traffic technique, ever! you wouldn;t use that same subject line for at least 2 months then you can use another variation like "greatest blue widgets, ever!"

The second one you mentioned is not meant to be used back to back you have to give it time before using it again.

Here's the thing. Getting your emails opened is all good and well but if the subject line is hypey or doesn't relate well to the content of the email, then you won't get very many clicks over to your offer... and clicks to your offer is all that really matters.

So try and keep your subject lines relevant yet still give them a reason to open the email.

yes indeed, the body of your message must embody the direction of your subject line to make it unrelated is unequivocally not good marketing
