Should i get an ssl certificate on my blog?

The primary reason why SSL is used is to keep sensitive information sent across the Internet encrypted so that only the intended recipient can understand it. This is important because the information you send on the Internet is passed from computer to computer to get to the destination server. Any computer in between you and the server can see your credit card numbers, usernames and passwords, and other sensitive information if it is not encrypted with an SSL certificate. When an SSL certificate is used, the information becomes unreadable to everyone except for the server you are sending the information to.

This protects it from hackers and identity thieves.

So would you recommend it for just a normal blog which does not have a members sign up or anything?

I personally don't think that you need one for what you described,
but that's your call. Also, look at the difference between shared
certificates and dedicated SSL certificates.

Many hosting packages come with free shared SSL, and some even
come with a free dedicated SSL certificate.

Also, look at who can't access your site if you are using an SSL
certificate.

Unless you are accepting payments or private information, an SSL cert is unnecessary.

SSL certificates is must if you are building a shopping cart, as it encrypts all information passing to and from your website. This includes sensitive information such as usernames, passwords, email addresses, personal information, and even credit card numbers! This is one reason an SSL Certificates is required in order to to accept credit card payments on a website.

But if it only a blog it is not mandatory, you may and may not use it, its up to you.
