New Travel Blog With Multiple Editors...What Do You Think?

I like travelling and checking out different cities pics and such.

I want to transform my hobby into a money making venture. Word has it that the travel niche is pretty good once you get some decent traffic on your website.

But to get traffic you need content.

And generating content takes time.

But I have an idea of how to do this much faster...

I'll have a blog where people who travel and take pics can be ADDED as editors and they can post pics and maybe write a little of what they thought about that specific city/place they visited.

I've told 4 friends already and who travelled recently and they are ready to contribute....

I figure that a blog with many contributors will grow much faster. Isnt that so?

To make them post more, I'll give them an incentive like the blog post that gets most likes or comments gets a prize. Am yet to decide what this is. We can have weekly winner.

Does wordpress allow for multiple editors? Who knows a theme that allows for this kind of thing?

Also, what do you think about my blog idea?

Yes you can set up multiple editors inside the wordpress admin/dashboard.

Click on "Users" in the sidebar. Then click "Add New" at the top. Then fill out the info and give them the permissions (role) you choose. I wouldn't give them Admin access but adding them as an Author would be great for what you're doing.

It's possible to add multiple authors as outlined above, but bear in mind that quality and consistency should be key if you're planning to monetize the site. Will you implement certain posting guidelines, for example, or necessary criteria? Getting these things ironed out from the offset will help to prevent and possible problems further down the line.

      Good luck!

Have you done any research into the niche? Sure there is a lot of interest in travel but that's such a broad topic and the net is overrun with pictures of travel destinations - Flickr, YouTube, Facebook, yada, yada ...

What is the appeal of travel pics? How are you going to present something that stands apart from all the other picture sites? Why are folks going to be passionate about returning to your site?

I think before you worry about the details of how you're going to build your content and site, I would give some thought to how you're going to carve out a niche, monetize your site, and provide something that people are really going to want to frequent.

Maybe you've already answered these questions, I don't know. The idea of yet another travel blog, IMO, doesn't get any of the juices flowing.

        Good luck to you,

        Steve

I think you mean "multiple contributors/authors", really, not "multiple editors"? And I think that's a good thing, too: a blog needs one overall editor, however many contributors it has, otherwise it's likely to lose coherence, direction and readers. This may help you: http://wordpress.org/plugins/add-multiple-users/

To build the kind of site you are describing, WordPress might not be the best option. Have you looked at ExpressionEngine? It's not free, but feature-rich. A lot of functionality is built in the product that costs a few hundred dollars. There is plenty of money in the travel niche; you just need a scalable strategy in terms of content acquisition.

Considering Expresssionengine for an ecommerce site, have you used it for this?

Whether you choose wordpress or another editor, be sure to use the option of not allowing the guest authors to automatically post their information. Although you mentioned that some of your friends are posting, you may want to check their pictures and blog posts first to ensure it meets with your guidelines for your site. You don't want someone posting controversial and it comes back on you as the site owner.

Once you are familiar with the person's work, then you can allow them to post automatically. Better safe than sorry when it comes to your site.
