Is it better to add a squeeze page to my blog?

Split testing both is the best to way to figure out.

But I would assume going directly to the squeeze page would yield you better results.

Chdduncan,

If you are saying that people can’t even see the blog before opting in, I would say that would kill your traffic. Unless people are compelled for some reason to want to see your content, I don’t think they would opt in. For example a person finding your blog through search will just bounce right off because there are other pages they can look at without leaving an email behind.

In my opinion, it would be a better strategy to focus on making your content good enough that people will want to give you their information to get more of it or to stay informed about it.

Nobody else can tell you with confidence what will yield better results for you.

I've split-tested it four times, for six months each, in four separate, unrelated niches and for me separate squeeze pages are always the loser. They build me bigger lists which produce less income.

(The pop-up is something I'm not even willing to test. As a friend of mine here says, "I'm open-minded but not so open-minded that my brains fall out".)

That's true for me, also, but is understating it. I want the primary purpose of all my websites to be to collect the visitors' email addresses, because without my lists, I can't pay my mortgage and bills. I'm an affiliate marketer: for me, no lists -----> no income.

You can have the opt-in box itself on every page, by putting it somewhere like the top of a sidebar? You wouldn't want to do that with the "prominent incentivization" for it, though? The home page is enough for that? Almost everyone sees it ...

I send all of my traffic directly to a squeeze page, then I only share my blog with the people on my list.

I'm not really much of an seo guy, I'd rather just build a list directly, then share my daily blog posts with my list.

They are 2 different things. You need them both. Your blog is meant to attract search engine traffic and also to talk to your list. Your squeeze page is meant to generate new subscribers. Banners in your blog should always link to your squeeze page before redirecting interested visitors to the actual offer.

nothing wrong with having a popup on entry to your website to offer people something of value for coming to your website. if they dont opt in then, thats okay, if they stay on your blog, see that your content is good, you need to make sure that an opt in for a gift is ALWAYS visible.

Make sure you use two seperate web forms when you do this so that you can see the results for both forms inside your autoresponder statistics area.

And how about all the people who would have come back and opted in at their second/third visit (as so many do)? How do you "see the results" for those?

As the saying goes ... I have no f'ing idea.

Luckily, there's a solution for Wordpress users in a form of a plug-in found in the WSO section: http://www.warriorforum.com/warrior-...ss-plugin.html

I haven't used it, and there are many other free alternatives, but this caught my eye because it uses a cookie system, so people returning will see the same page (of course, if they use the same computer). This feature alone is worth the price.
