4 Questions To Ask That Make Niche Marketing Easier

I have found that more often than not beginning affiliate marketers tend to give up fairly quickly and decide that its not for them. I think I know why. People new to internet marketing tend to spend an exorbitant amount of time researching and "preparing" to get started instead of just getting started.

So, I thought I would share a quick way to come up with what might be a viable, profitable niche and help some newbies stop procrastinating and give it a shot.
1. Is there more than one published (paper not internet) magazine for the niche?
2. When you put an exact search of the niche in Google do ad's appear?
3. Are there internet forums for the niche? (Goto Google and type [forum:Your Niche] (without the brackets))
4. Do you know something about the niche (intimately)

This is some good advice. Of course you want to make sure that the people you are targeting are buyers. If you want to sell information, they have to buy information. But with affiliate programs abounding on the internet, almost any niche is wide open since you can still sell physical products for a commission.

But while I agree that most people spend too much time "preparing" before they get started, I disagree that they're doing their research. It's more like they're focusing on tasks that don't matter like what their domain name should be, re-designing their blog template for weeks, editing their graphics over and over again. That's what I did first starting out, and I easily get caught up in it still. Like who cares if you move a graphic over a pixel or two? Nobody but you. And you shouldn't care either, but it's just a task we do to fill up the time. Why?

Because usually when you dig deep the real answer is fear that stops us from moving forward because we don't want to look stupid if it doesn't work. And then when we do take action, it's just like Robert McKee says in his book Story. Most people take the minimum amount of action to get a result, so they get minimum results. Gradually, they start to take more and more action as they stick with it, or they just quit entirely.

That's a big problem though, is this minimum action to get a result stuff. I know I've been there where I take some small slight action, and expect this massive positive response in return, almost instantly. I think that's what causes more people to give up than anything else is they do something, and expect instant positive results.

But more often than not, and the pros will tell you this, even if you're amazing and you're really good at marketing products online, and you can write some pretty bang up sales copy, or shoot quick sales videos, and you can drive 50 visitors a day or whatever, most of the time you're going to get really crappy results.

I mean look at Kevin Harrington who Dean and Joe just interviewed on I Love Marketing. Here this guy is who's sold billions of products via infomercials, and his "track record" is 4 out of 10 products do "okay". 6 out of 10 totally flop and fail, and die miserable deaths. And 2 out of 10 succeed beyond his wildest imagination, making him filthy, filthy rich waaaaay out of comparison to the "flops".

And this guy is amazing at what he does, he's been doing it for like three decades, and still only 40% of his projects win. Anyone else, we're talking maybe 10% or 20% are winners. But people do ONE thing, and they expect immediately positive results, when really they need to do TEN projects as quickly as they can, one after the other, until 1 or 2 of them PAY.

That's not something you'll see in a sales letter though. Because it's the damn truth. And it's not very sexy or exciting. That's a big problem in this market place. Everyone's getting the "do nothing, make money instantly" pitch and they believe into it, that you can start from zero and do nothing and make money instantly overnight. Well, you can do nothing and make money, but it's not going to be instantly, and it's not going to be overnight.

Anyway - too much coffee. I'll stop rambling now.
