Unused Brand Website Used for Temporary Personal Blog - Good or Bad?

I am in a bit of a fix at the moment. I have a specific question about the dangers of using a site for personal use now, and in 3-6 months, using it for an authority blog for an upcoming project. The domain will be something like pandoraharper.com, and I want to use it temporarily to host a blog to promote my freelance business.

The temporary blog would be a separate url, like pandoraharper.com/freelancing or something to that affect.

The issue is that I am in no way prepared to host a single byte of data on pandoraharper.com that pertains to the upcoming authority project I have in the works.

I am very concerned about the affects this will for pandoraharper.com in regards to Google, when I finally am able to launch the authority site.

Yes I know I could easily use wordpress.com, or blogger.com, but for a bunch of reasons that's not going to work for me. I set up an account on a free webhost server last week, and the server my site is on has been offline 3 times, including right now. I'm totally frustrated!

Any thoughts you all might have about this would be appreciated. Thanks!

First - if you really DO mean to use that domain, register it NOW. Like half an hour ago, cos you've made it public and some cheap ***** will snap it up just to stop you getting it.

Then, get proper, paid hosting. Hostgator do a cheap starter package and you won't have to put up with the down times.

Why put anything on the site if you are concerned? You probably should be asking this in the seo forum, but as far as I'm aware, Google would see mydomain.com/freelancing as a separate site, so anything you put there shouldn't have any negative effects on your main site.

I would set up the freelancing site as a subdomain like
    freelancing.mydomain.com

Thanks to both of you for your quick replies.

I registered a domain after posting this thread, so that part is done. I'll post something else in the SEO forum.

No doubt I can do either of the things you two suggested, but first I've got to find a host. I have a lead already, but if that doesn't pan out, Hostgater or Bluehost will have to do.
