On the right track?

First, let me say thanks to the WF mods. This is a great forum!

OK. Let me start by admitting that I'm a newbie. I've been interested in IM for a while and really want to get serious. I've been doing a lot of reading about all the different approaches and I think I know where I want to focus. So let me lay out my plan & see what the experts thoughts are.

I'd like to work in the affiliate marketing area, specifically ClickBank products. Also, I already have a domain and website for another business I own.

I have a good idea of what products I want to market so I would create a page on my domain that is just a cloaking script for the hoplink. What I would then do is use the backlink services available here to drive traffic to the page on my site.

I know this sounds really simple so I'm sure I'm probably missing a lot. I guess my first qustions are these...

1. Would this tactic be effective? Are backlinks alone an effective means of driving traffic to a site?
2. Should I purchase a specific domain for each product or can I use landing pages/cloaking scripts on my existing site?

Sorry if my post comes off a little disjointed. It's been a task trying to get my brain wrapped around the IM concept.

    I think getting one or two domains, putting some products on them, and then monitoring the results with google analytics will get you jump started. There is always more to do, but start out simple. Don't try to do too much too fast. Just get yourself up and running, and see where that takes you.

    Backlinks can obviously generate a good amount of traffic. But when you're getting backlinks you should always try to use the keyword or phrase you want to rank for in the SERPs.
