What do you do with subscibers that don't confirm their subscription?

A large percentage of my subscribers remain in a 'pending confirmation' status because they don't confirm their subscription on the second email.

What should I do with those? Send them a regular email and ask to confirm?( is it allowed?). How do you lower the amount of these?

Appreciate the help

Just wait the 30 days for your auto-responder to delete them. If they didn't confirm, then they probably don't want you to contact them. Don't give it to much thought, it is part of the list building game

    Don't send them a personal e-mail.

Instead, check that your autoresponder provider is
sending out the confirmation e-mails promptly or at
    all.

Also check that your confirmation e-mails are landing
in the inbox (and not the spam/junk box) for the major
providers such as GMail, Yahoo, Hotmail, etc.

Improve the quality of your opt-in offer so that more
people really want to confirm their e-mail to receive
their gift and follow-up e-mails from you.

If you're referring to the newsletter sign-up form via
your sig file site, then your offer and form could do
with a lot of improvement. (E.g. A more enticing
offer than just 'Subscribe to Our Newsletter', place
the First Name field above the E-mail field in the opt-in
form, use more exciting words for your submit button
    than simply 'Submit').

You could also consider moving to single opt-in to
eliminate the confirmation e-mail issue altogether.

    Dedicated to mutual success,

i never have this problem because i always use single opt in

the only exception when i use double opt in is when i sell a high ticket product and i get them to confirm so that they get the videos

i do this because a high ticket product buyer is worth way more than a $7 ebook buyer and 99.99% of the time they confirm as well because they are a much more serious customer

Also be sure to go thru your subscribers periodically. Using qualifiers figure out which ones are not reading your emails and have not for some time. Delete those or send a targeted email to see if they still want to be on your list. Otherwise you will end up paying for non responsive subscribers.

What software are you using? Many of them have automatic filters to delete people that do not verify subscriptions.

    Use single opt in.

If you're a massive guru with 10 million in the bank, then you can afford to use double opt-in.

If you're struggling to buy paid traffic, then use single opt-in.

    Just my $.02.

Even as a subscriber I hate double optin! It's a pain to have to wait for that slow email to come and then click on it and then wait again for the welcome email to get the gift or whatever. So I imagine that my subscribers probably feel the same way. Why make them do more work? If they want to unsub they can at any time.

I think I read somewhere that technically, if you send another email to someone asking them if they received your confirmation email, that it is considered SPAM.

Thats why aweber doesnt have a "remind" option for those pending subscribers - because it would be an unsolicited email

I agree with this line of thinking, as well. I'm not going to make my customers/audience/readers do any more work than is absolutely necessary. Making people do extra, unnecessary things does nothing but cost everyone valuable time and money.

Interestingly enough though, I'm always surprised when I subscribe to something and it's single opt-in. Single opt-in is still surprisingly rare.

You switch to single opt-in Tbh, if they don't confirm it could mean a couple of things

They just want the freebie/ Their email is basically inactive/ They don't like what you're promoting
