Stats on flash site vs HTML site?

Does anyone have any good stats on how a flash site might perform vs a similar HTML site? I'd have to guess just the fact that you need a flash download/plug in to view the flash site would hurt it right off the bat?

I'm specifically interested in conversions and average time on site. I personally feel like even the most well designed flash sites are harder to use, but yet they're still developed left and right. Plus there's tons of designer org's like webby awards that favor these types of designs?

While not answering your question directly, it looks like the lack of the Flash plug-in may not be as much of a problem as you thought:

I don't have any stats on how they perform, but flash sites are harder to optimize for SEO. If you're looking to get organic search traffic, HTML is the better choice.

I just put all the meta tags in and have some background content that is behind the flash. So google still "sees" the content

I think flash sites are catching up but I believe for SEO reasons that HTML still perform better.

Though flash is pretty, I prefer html and css vs. flash. If I use flash for a site it is at most a header or banner, but I am going away from that to pure css and html. I think html is the way to go for organic traffic and SEO. Also, for some of my sites, I want my site to be able to scale down and be read by the cell phones like the iphone. There are no flash readers for the iphone yet.

I don't think the Google Robot can actually interpret flash files. HTML is far superior for SEO, IMO.
