Youtube and Copyright

Does anyone know of a way to get content removed from Youtube if it is being used by someone other than the rightful owner if you are not the owner yourself? Or does the copyright holder have to submit the request?

That's a good question. I don't know the answer. You would have to submit a DMCA request as the owner of the content. But whether someone else can do it, not sure. I would think you could.

    Is it your content?

youTube is serious about copyright. I recently met a gentleman who was banned from posting on youTube for 6 months because of what they interpreted as copyright infringement.

No it is not my content.

Basically there is someone else in my niche who is getting an edge up on me because they are putting up more content which does not belong to them. I know for a fact it is not theirs and they do not have permission to use it. That being said I am not the owner and if they continue to get away with it, I lose viewership.

This is becoming a real problem on YouTube.

I would try contacting the User and see if they will just remove the video. If you don't get a response. You can use this form and submit a complaint.

    nope, not legitimately.

If you false claim, you also run the risk of having yourself banned.

WHy not just market your videos harder?
