Yes - many, in the past. But I wouldn't dream of using it now.

I know that there are some "problems" there at the moment (to put it very mildly). I've recently seen some complaints of censorship from people there, discussing all the recent Squidoo problems and the deletion of posts there that might have come across as "criticism", and some of those posts have also themselves been removed a little later. To me, it doesn't exactly look like "Freedom Of Speech Central".

There are a lot more observations in this post, if they help: http://www.warriorforum.com/main-int...ml#post8109462

Just another reason why having your own site is better...

Right now Squidoo and Hubpages are on my list of high PR Web 2.0's to use for Tier 2 backlink building.

Seems both sites seem to be getting a bad rep in this thread. Would someone maybe post a "this is what is wrong with them" note? I'ver never been even a casual user of either.

There's far too much for just a "note", but this post, also linked to above, includes a little list of links to threads in most of which large numbers of people do exactly that.

I used to use both Squidoo and HubPages quite extensivley a few years ago but then things changed on both platforms.

I've created lots of Wordpress and Blogspot blogs for my clients as an alternative. I have complete control on whats on those sites and I can get high volume of traffic to them.

Squidoo and HubPages still are worth taking a shot at if you've not used them before...

Why was your signature file linking to a domain owned by someone else?

What's wrong with them is that users are building equity within someone else's property. It's not just that though. To play in their sandbox you've got to play by their rules.

I spent a good long time building a couple of blogs both on Squidoo and Hubpages only to have them shut me down soon after. The blogs were both within their terms of service but... They anticipated they would soon be changing their TOS and that my stuff didn't fit their new model. Weeks of work wasted. One other thing. Certain Squidoo and Hubpage pages might be high PR but any page(s) you create will start at 0 and be rated on merit. So there's no advantage there at all.

The moral of the story is, if you're going to go to the trouble of building something decent then do it on your own domain where you are calling the shots.

There is no problem playing by some ones rules. Their rules create a tougher enviroment with more fierce competition, and if you can come out ahead the rewards are much greater.

I currently only use squidoo and similar sights in tiered link building, but they have proven to be successful in many other areas if you can handle the challenges they present.

Really? I'd say there is if they won't allow me to promote the products and services I choose to promote. I'd say there is if after months of work all my content just disappears overnight.

Additionally, it's impossible to "play by the rules" when those rules can be changed at the site's whim, literally overnight.

Hosting is so cheap now that there's little excuse not to put up one's own site.

I had a very bad experience with squidoo, If you are newbie I would say that you better have your own website rather than publishing lens on squidoo

I wouldn't use Squidoo now. They first locked Lenses of mine that they thought weren't within their new terms then shortly after locked ALL of my lenses for seemingly no reason. I checked where you're supposed to to find out how to fix the issues, but many of them were blank. It wasn't worth it. I've had certain lenses there for over 5 years and suddenly they weren't good enough and a few didn't even have any money making modules there but their own adsense.

They're too risky today and not worth any of your time. Create your own site on your own domain. It's safer than wondering if all your lenses will be shut down overnight.

1:There must be something squidoo should improved. after My first lens locked(original article),i'm shocked .I have no idea about this, then i copied the lens but add another 2 Paragraph and got approved and featured.
2: I made one comment to one squidoo official article only saying how important the lens is how google to rank the article.Squidoo not approve my comment. It's very very interesting.
