How do you upload HUGE files?

Hey Warriors,

How do you do it?

I have several HUGE video files that total 537 MB and I am trying to upload them seperataly but takes forever

So I am wondering if there is an easier faster way of doing it?

I am using WSFTP PRO and they are in zip files.

I really appreciate your time.

regards,
Dennis Cheesman

Do you have a hosting account? Upload your file using FileZilla, a free FTP program.

Dennis it's really not practical to have files of that size online.
    Can't you compress the videos?
I mean even if you can upload them who's going to want to download them?

Yes, I agree, and if someone wanted to take down your site, they could just make repeated requests for that file.

It is okay to contact me! I have been developing software since 1999, creating many popular products like phpLD.

    Try using DropSend.com service.

You can store files upto 1GB and send to five different people every month.

What I meant was run the files through a compression software tool to reduce their size, then zip them. There are hundreds of tools availabe to do this eg Video Compression Software - Video Compressor for Compressing AVI, MPEG, WMV, etc Video Files or you can even use Windows movie maker on your pc.

Your best bet would be to find someone that has a fast upload. Typical broadband connections usually only have a 512kb upload speed. You could find someone who has a T1 and upload faster that way... which if they have a full T1 it should have a 1.5 MB upload speed... but if those aren't available options, then you just need to break your uploads into smaller zip files. Find your largest files and upload them in a zip file all by their lonesome. Then bundle your smaller files into a single zip file.

That should resolve your problem. No software is going to make your file upload quicker. The bottle neck is your upload speed.

I have these in AVI and flash, the AVI is 537 MB and the flash is 147 MB which is much smaller.

Can people edit the files in flash format?

I don't believe so. If these are PLR videos, then you may want to contact your server provider and find out if they have a deliver to upload service. Basically you would send them your disc and they would upload the files locally.

This what you need to do. Don't do single zip files. However many AVI files you have, just zip each individual AVI file in its own zip file. Then upload that file. But you are still not going to upload them faster.

You might as well set it to upload with some sort of upload manager, possibly a torrent type of program, and leave it over night.

      Hope that helps. -- Dennis

Editing depends on the software you are using. There are programs for editing flv files. If they don't already have something for editing flv files, then there's always free conversion software you can use to convert to a compatible format that will work with whatever editing software they have - Google "YouTube Downloader" for a free conversion tool.

As for uploading quickly, maybe you should try using some editing software to break up the video files into part 1, part 2, etc. and have them download each video separately.

  • I mean i guess it really depends on your hosting account.

I mean we personally host them on our web servers but we have over 1TB of space, and Unmetered Bandwidth. If you have alot of space and bandwidth I would use FireZilla, or FireFTP to upload them to your web server.

How about using Rapidshare for uploading your video files?

The OP was how to upload faster... not save bandwidth or storage. His upload speed is the real issue. Nothing on the server side will make his files upload any faster than his maximum upload speed through his internet connection.

If I give someone who knows the flash files do you think you can check to see if it is in editable format?

SWF files are not editable as far as the typical user is concerned. FLV files it might be possible to download from your site, and there may be a program out there that will allow some form of editing of those files... i.e. look at all the modified youtube videos. Those are FLV videos. But as far as I know SWF is not editable.

However, there may be some conversion program out there that will allow the conversion to a different format and then editing of a SWF file. But typical users will not be aware of this.

If you purposely want them to be editable you need to stick with the AVI format. That format will allow editing in most any video editing software program.
