Where should I start off for testing paid traffic?

I'd like to start building my list by offering a freebie for opt-ins.

Obviously this isn't something I can hope to rank in google so I figure I will need to pay for my traffic.

I know theres a few out there (adwords, facebook, bing ads, pof, 7search) but was looking for advice with which of them to start with in order to test landing pages and offers without burning through too much cash.

I burned 20 bucks on Facebook recently just to try it out but really didn't like it. It felt too expensive for what I was getting (especially hate their clicks vs link clicks - why am I paying them for other clicks if all I am interested in is visitors to my site).

Anyways does anyone have a suggestion with which paid traffic provider to start off learning?

edit: Forgot to mention I am in the health niche. I read about solo ads being worthwhile but it seems like 95% of them focus on IM (which I know nothing about so far )

Have you tried BuySellAds? You could look for health-related websites and post your ad there.

You should start w/ free facebook, bing, and adwords coupons. You can get them from signing up for like a 2$ hosting on godaddy. Adf.ly is also a good source for list building quickly if you can properly monetize it.

If you are looking for a cheap traffic source you should go with 7Search. Set the PPC to $0.01 and start rocking!

7search is great for single opt-ins.

Ive heard a lot of the traffic that comes in on 7search is junk and needs to be filtered somehow? Any truth in that?

You could try solo ads...its not the cheapest solution but it might work for you. Try safe swaps or the classified section of the WF.

I recommend to test it using solo ads.. until have decent conversion rate on your squeeze page, then you can try other traffic source. the idea here to test your squeeze page first. You can look for solo ads providers for health niche. yes it's more difficult than IM niche, but there're a lot of people selling solo ads on other niche

Use the advanced search feature here on the warrior forum to find people offering solo ads in the health niche... there are quite a few out there.

Also... guest blogging is a great way to get a load of health related traffic. It's not a "paid" technique unless you're paying for a high dollar copywriter to create the content and someone else to search out the high traffic blogs.... which you could also do!

Try those networks: 7 Search, Microsoft Ad Center .
They are really cheap and very simple for newbies.

Microsoft Ad Center get my vote as well but they are quick and heavy with the ban hammer across all of their products. For example if you have a live account and you don't renew properly or it has a balance they ban you from ad center as well. Beyond that if you just want to get your feet wet third tier PPC sites are your best bet but conversions may not be the best.

I'm surprised no one else has said this already, but your landing page test results will vary by traffic source. Buyers from different traffic sources will be in completely different mindsets, so a landing page that converts well for a Facebook user may suck for a user who clicked in through Google AdWords and Vice-Versa. Ads like 7search are junk, don't waste your money.

If you want to really test landing page effectiveness, you need a real budget. I tell most of my clients $3,000 is the absolute minimum ($100 per day for 30 days). You need to get enough traffic that the numbers actually mean something, if you only drive a few hundred visitors the conversion rates don't mean squat, it's not enough data to make any decisions.

    Sounds like a good idea.

Obviously this isn't something I can hope to rank in google so I figure I will need to pay for my traffic.
Why was this even a thought? Google isn't going to pay your bills or sign-up for your list.

I know theres a few out there (adwords, facebook, bing ads, pof, 7search) but was looking for advice with which of them to start with in order to test landing pages and offers without burning through too much cash.
Have you tried Free Traffic that DOESN'T include SEO, SERPs, or Rankings?

I burned 20 bucks on Facebook recently just to try it out but really didn't like it. It felt too expensive for what I was getting (especially hate their clicks vs link clicks - why am I paying them for other clicks if all I am interested in is visitors to my site).
Another reason Free Direct Marketing is the way to go. Why would you want to spend your money letting someone else advertise your business?

Anyways does anyone have a suggestion with which paid traffic provider to start off learning?

edit: Forgot to mention I am in the health niche. I read about solo ads being worthwhile but it seems like 95% of them focus on IM (which I know nothing about so far )
It seems to me that you don't know how to test your traffic, so you shouldn't be Paying for it in the first place. You need to learn how to Direct, Track, and Upsell your traffic, or else spending money on getting the traffic won't do you a lick of good.

I highly suggest Free Direct Traffic, ie: Forums, Social Networks, Free Classifieds, even Local Ads.

Stop looking at your visitors as numbers on your Tracking Software, and start looking at them as people with problems. Problems that you can easily get paid to solve. Treat them like PEOPLE, not like a number.

Depending on the type of product. I would start off at plenty of fish, 7 search, banner ads and website ads. There are alot of high traffic sites out there that rent space.
I've had great success with shoemoney.com in the marketplace listing. 75 bucks and with a good add that can be quite a few optins.
