Making Money from Authority sites?

How many have you actually made money from Authority sites? I'd like to visit your site and see what kind of things you've done. Was the income from adsense, clickbank, or more?

I've made money from authority sites, but I won't reveal them or their niche very easily.

I put out high quality content, get optins to an autoresponder list and promote clickbank products. I tried Adsense and banners before moving strictly to email marketing with that site.

I also have other non-authority sites some of which I do adsense, others email marketing.. it's all about getting out there and giving it a try. Your design isn't as important as your ability to put out content consistently or pay someone to put out content consistently.

Not many sites are very successful over night, most take weeks or months to start generating decent traffic and income.

How do you define 'authority' sites? Many people seem to prefer shortcuts like longtail specialization, subhniche specialization, total number of pages, and other indicators. You might be working with a definition that isn't shared by many others. Ultimately, isn't it Google that determines whether a site is an authority or not?

Really you should learn that as Internet Marketers we don't go out of our way to show our sites from affiliate marketing, adsense so forth cause if I say I'm making this from this site, or you tell me that and I do some research and I see that traffic is there then I would pretty much copy you and steal your keywords and so forth, You see where I'm going with this right.

I make money with Authority sites.

One of my sites gets 5-6K unique visitors a day, has 51K Facebook Fans, does over $300 a day in Adsense, gets about 75 optins per day, and makes about $100 a day in affiliate revenue.

But like my compatriots here already said, I won't be showing it to you...

$300 a day in adsense on 5-6k is excellent.

How do you get so much traffic without Google? Is it through all the FB likes people are spreading around?

I am yet to make money with adsense. I have ran after adsense approval for a few months. After that I am struggling to earn money through it. A couple of dollars after 6-7 months. Very weird.

I have since 1997, full-time since 1999. Revenue comes from selling my own products and services, a membership area, email list, AdSense, selling ad space directly, and some affiliate promotions.

Nice man. I do the same, only I hoard all the ad space for myself to promote affiliate stuff

I suppose the word "authority" can mean different things, but I think in regard to websites we're talking not so much about Google but about your brand being recognized across multiple marketing channels.

Its funny you say that because I hardly get any traffic from Google compared to everywhere else my traffic comes from.

Out of 202,000+ visits that came over the last 30 days, only 1,458 was from Google.

And I get extremely high quality, engaged, and targeted traffic.

I, too, am confused about the term 'authority'. But I read someone mention previously that it is a site where people go to for expert advice, or at least authoritative opinion, and I kind of agree with that definition. Whenever you need to find out something and the site that you go to for that particular need is probably considered an authority site.

    Hello there!

I understand that you are interested to make money with authority sites, but the thing is that you are asking us to reveal our authority niche sites for you to see it. As many Warriors here who are trying to protect their competition, we don't want to show or reveal our niche authority sites to you.

Anyway, I just want to tell you that I do make money from my few niche authority sites, as they are giving more value to the visitors and satisfy them to click and buy products o my banners with affiliate links on it. Authority niche sites may take you a lot of time to tweak things up before seeing results, like on-page SEO, building backlinks, social signals, etc.

Authority niche sites are not gonna make you an overnight millionaire. Thus, it requires you to put some effort to make it work.

    Cheers!

    Jeff

What do you mean by authority sites? You can generate adsense income by blogging on authority sites like Squidoo.com and Blogger.com. Promoting affiliate offers on authority sites like Blogger.com and Wordpress.com is out of the question.

Thats why people create their own site and make them an authority in their niche market.

To me an authority site means, you get a ton of traffic, and a ton of repeat traffic and you get more traffic than most other sites in your space. Which I do.

      It's all about reach.

I think that might be the most succinct definition of an "authority site" I've heard...

In fact, if I may I'll paraphrase that into even simpler terms...

A site that people bother coming back to!

        Great stuff

For most there has been a heated debate on what is meant by authority and mini authority. I do not think or care what definitions people put on them. I tnink authority sites are large say 15 pages or more of relevant content on products or services.

Mini I consider under the 15 pages. That is what it means to me.

Now on my working knowledge I know my auhority sites easily outrank my minis now while just a few years ago I could rank a mini faster.

Now what Ido is build slowly. If I see it is ranking well then it beomes an authority and I continue to build it. The others beome a mini in which I make some money and use it for a list builder or flip it.

I have a couple of authority sites in niches I'm interested in. In my opinion, getting into niches you have a passion for is the key to success with niche/authority sites.

You'll find that a lot of people will not be comfortable revealing their niches and website to others, and I'm one of them. It's very easy to model what we're doing on those sites and create a clone, and personally, I wouldn't want to create my own competitor.

I update my sites at least once a day, with HIGH QUALITY content. I don't bother about keyword density; they just make the content awkward. I do search for keywords on the Google Keyword tool and other such tools to get an idea on what to write about.

I promote my sites in various ways; the methods of promotion differs based on the niches. I basically go where my target audience are. I use clickbank offers on my sites. I personally think adsense is a waste of time.

A piece of advice: Make sure your domains are not too long. Authority sites need branding, and memorable domain names can easily be branded.

    Hope that helped. Good luck.

I agree with most of that except for the Adsense being a waste of time.

There's a lot of money to be made with Adsense.

It's free money, and there are no refunds.

And if you know what you're doing you can make a lot of money with it.

What I've found is that you need a lot of traffic though for it to be worth it.

Okay if you don't want to provide your websites publicly, you can pm me them and that way, a pure newbie will have a look at it and not able to "copycat" your website.

I know there has to be some good souls out there.

Also, if I was to create a authority site. To make income i'd use clickbank and adsense right? Last but not least, do I create a paypal account linked to my bank account so the funds transfer there. Do I file a tax report on this? (I live in Canada)

I'm not sure why you badly want to look at other people's sites. Just do a search on Google related to your niche and you will find plenty of high ranking and PR sites.

you dont need him to reveal his niche tbh, there isnt a special magic formula to becoming an authority site, more like think of a niche you want to serve and then aim to build the ultimate website for the target users, so that your site is the only site they think of going to when they want info on x niche.

also if you really need to find an authority site head to google do some searches in some niches and see what the big sites are doing. as in content type and site layout.

I need some tips on improving FB traffic to my sites please. What exactly do you do to get traffic. Is it simply people liking your content through the FB likes (like buttons) or do you have to interact with followers on the the FB account for the site? I have always wanted to become less dependent on Google traffic but if I have to put too much effort into this then I will obviously have signficantly less time creating content.

Collecting emails is the only way to go if you truly want to build a business online...
how you will monetize them is up to you...

AdSence is for those who can not sell...

there was a fellow above who said design wasn't that important... that is not true at all...

Design is the new marketing!!! It is extremely important to build a perfect looking blog.

Says the person who probably doesn't make any or very little money at all with Adsense lol

I can sell and I do however I'd be an idiot to not put adsense on a site that gets this much traffic, and has the CTR and CPC I get. Certain sites call for it, especially authority sites and the revenue potential is much better than if I was selling advertising space in the same spots.

Adsense isn't my only stream of revenue, I just like free money so I take it and will continue to.

I also build lists, do email marketing, and push affiliate products through banner placements on the site. Yesterday that one site made over $500 from everything.

And this isn't the only I way I make money, but it's one of my favorite.

My site is ugly then by your standards. I don't have any design on it, not even a header graphic. I have just the text name of the site.

My fan page is equally as ugly.

However, the site layout is very clean and easy for my people to navigate - which I think is equally, if not more important than design.
