How to use Twitter for a "noble" cause?

Hello,

I'm currently working on a project to help list owners get easy JV's and better exposure for their product launches. The service is at ListAlliance .

So I decided to give Twitter a try on this - I've heard of its massive viral power, which sounds just right for that project/

I was wondering if you can give me any tips on finding the right people at Twitter. I've already signed up for it (Dmitry (ListAlliance) on Twitter) and I pretty much get the concept.

Except... how do I find the right audience - list owners?

I'm definitely not into the whole "spamming" thing (if you know what I mean). I'm interested in using it as a genuine means to connect with serious list owners who would be interested in ListAlliance.

The whole idea behind ListAlliance is to form a group of SERIOUS list owners and help each other out. So targeting get-rich-quick wannabe's, etc. is absolutely pointless - that's why the whole mass-follow thing is out of the way.

How should I go about finding the serious folks and connecting with them?

Thanks!

Dmitry

    Dmitry,

You just have to consider your ideal customer. Sending you a PM that should help.

    Haha - well, I wouldn't call this a "noble cause" - but that's ok.

Basically you want to build followers that are "internet marketers." It's easy to do. Just follow the followers of the main gurus. Make sure you have your bio filled out nicely, and get a nice looking custom background.

To actually build the list, you can do it manually without TOO much effort, or make it easier on yourself by using Hummingbird or one of the other tools.

From there, you want to be "tweeting" a handful of messages per day that have nothing to do with your service, but would be of interest to the people you're targeting.

Mix in 2-3 messages per week about your service and you'll be ok.

Along the way, be sure to RT messages that you find useful, and when you see someone demonstrate that they might be a good fit for you, a personal DM would be appropriate.

    Thanks Eric!

Just one question though - why shouldn't I be talking about the alliance? I mean it's free - not like I'm selling anything so why not talk about its progress, updates, etc?

Do you think people on Twitter would get put off by this and consider it a blant self-promotion?

You SHOULD talk about it. But it shouldn't be the only thing you talk about. Otherwise, you're not seen as a "real person."
