I was taking a look at the Flippa listings "recently sold".

So I opened a few of those sold offers and had a look at the websites.

To be honest, a few of those websites and the price sold made me lift my eyebrows.

I even checked some of the traffic stats and found huge differences from what they claimed.

The websites claim to make a few k a month almost automatically but are sold for less than 2x the monthly revenue.

That made me questioning "How Reliable Are Flippa Listings"

Can someone manipulate his own listing to raise momentum for a site? Or could it even be that Flippa fakes sales stats to make it look like there is a good money to be made?

I guess that later isn't the case as Flippa might not need that kind of manipulation and could risk a penalty. The numbers just don't made sense as as selling a site for 3.5k which makes me 2k a month on autopilot is stupid.

We had a case here in Brazil with a Job Listing site which had about 50% fake listings to inflate their offer to attract new clients. Just so to say as you can put in your site whatever you want to make it look good.

I don't think Flippa fakes the listings.

I have sold many sites on Flippa and there are a ton of buyers and sellers looking for different things.

Some people are willing to pay more for something they really want where as there are many bargain hunters.
Some buyers are looking for a very specific thing or maybe are just looking for a site to add to a network of blogs to boost SEO.

Pretty sure they are not fake listings though. At least they have never faked any of mine

I hoped to hear that as it would be crazy if they did IMO.

Do you have to proof your stats to Flippa before you can list your site?

It just look's sometimes unbelievable if I see a site sold for 4 k which makes the seller 2.5k a month in revenue (working 3 hours a week on it) and the reason is "I'm focus on other things!?"

Heck, why the guy don't outsource to a manager at the Philipines, pay him 1k per month to do the job and keep 1.5k in his pocket for doing nothing??

Am I stupid to think this way or what?

Yes you can prove your stats to Flippa the most reliable ways are direct analytics and adsense updates.

Then they will come direct from your account no way to forge these.

But you can also upload screenshots yourself.

If you are buying ask lots of questions, ask for proof also check for feedback and do some research yourself.

If it sounds too good to be true it probably is!

Flippa is notorious for sellers faking stats saying what is not true ect. There are people on flippa making a killing selling over and over. If there is a way to cheat they will find it.
They use traffic programs for fake views they photoshop edit there screen shots.
You have to be careful. I bought a website and complained to flippa and showed them my proof, the seller is still there selling the trash that he has been selling for years.

Interesting, so we can't trust the listings blindly and have to do our DD.

I really thought that Flippa takes more care and check the stats and claims of the sellers.

      Thanks for letting me know.

There's plenty of junk sites on Flippa with both fake income and traffic stats. You really have to do due diligence and even then, there's no guarantee that you're buying what the seller says you're buying.

Here's a guest post I did on Flippa on due diligence that covers some things to do and look out for.
