  For those folks that you pay on commission, it almost sounds as though they are screened "affiliates."

I'm lucky because many of them are working for commisions and per job, so no upfront money is needed...

I'm curious about the screening process. I've been thinking of hiring a few people too - a lot less than 25 though - but it's really hard to come to terms with whether or not i can trust someone to do the job properly.

I suppose eventually there's no choice but to wait and see, but I'm assuming that some measure of assurance is still needed.

The screening process was already done for me, it was a private list of specific workers that my friend had access to. So, it just came down to putting my offer out. I was NOT expecting the response I got. It took me by surprise.

It would be smart for you to take care with your words at this point. You keep throwing around "employee", but you can't hire an employee that's only paid commissions and per job. Employees have to be guaranteed minimum wage, you have to pay their payroll taxes, you have to withhold their income taxes, you have to file their W2s, and follow all the rest of your state's labor laws.

If you want to hire contractors, you can't treat them as employees. You can't direct how they work, when they work, the method of their work, the tools of their work. You're very limited in how much control you exert over them, or they become employees and have to be paid as such. The distinction is made by looking at how you treat them, not what you call them. Calling instructions for contractors an "employee zone" sounds dangerous.

Should you handle these people as employees while paying them as contractors, and one of them notifies your state labor board and the IRS, you will instantly be on the hook for unpaid wages and back taxes to both. In some states, the penalties for having unpaid wages are very steep (multiples of the wages owed); it's not a situation you want to be in. Even worse if any of them are out-of-country and you're employing them without the right work visas.

Just a word of caution! This is what employment lawyers are for.

I am a former marketing manager and recruiter so I have extensive experience with recruiting people. I used to hire big numbers at once sometimes and the process isn't much different to hiring individuals. As long as you're in control and know what you want, you'll eventually succeed.

That was a very creative way to set up an "employee zone" to quickly and efficiently fill the slots. Letting everyone know upfront what you expected and what they got out of it no doubt helped weed out some that were not a good fit. If you get some great workers your friend gave you GOLD.

Yes it is a backend membership site. Several years ago I ran a membership site using amember. I learned the in's and outs of amember and found it so useful that for any of my large business sites, I always use it for any backend signups. The entire setup consists of a few pages of information and follow through info. It is working like a real charm right now.

I created a nice little employee zone, similar to a membership site, set up some directions, what was expected, how much was to be earned, when payment times where. I included check in activities, rules and regulations ect.

Funneled everyone through the employee setup, and now I have 25+ active hires.

I am very smitten with myself right now, production just doubled, and best of all. I'm just finishing up tweaks ect.

As far as where did I locate these employees? I am lucky to have a great friend who had a private list of said people.

I'm actually pretty surprised how well this worked out.
Total time, less then 24 hours!
