Just purchased my hosting through HostGator. So if anyone goes through HostGator, maybe you can help. Under 'HostGator Links' they have a button for 'Website Templates'. I downloaded a template I like but have no idea how to install the template to my website. I have the template saved to my desktop and it has a html, flash, and psd folder inside of it. Not sure if you need any more information about the file to be able to tell me how to install it. If you do, please let me know. Thanx. |

You need to upload the folder you downloaded with an ftp program to the public_html folder on your server.

PSD files are there so you can modify the logo and different aspects of the template within photoshop. There should be an HTML folder for the main part of your site. The flash folder is likely for a flash header that is being used in the template. Basically upload the files to your hosting account. Depending on where you want the site located you may need to update the links within the files to reflect the location where you are putting the template. You will need to know how to find and edit the various links in the HTML. Normally if you upload the files in the HTML folder directly to your root of the domain, then no modification should be necessary. I would have to have the files to see how everything was laid out to tell you more about the flash part of it. Hope that helps. Dennis |

Sry still haven't figured it out yet. Anyone I can PM with further details and maybe get some 1 on 1 help about installing this Template? When I open my HTML folder it shows this..(see pic) Now I uploaded all the index files into public_html and ftp_html.. It shows the basic background but it looks distorted and all the files obviously aren't loaded. Not sure what else to load. This is a Flash template.. |

Ok scratch that last reply.. I used Filezilla.. I connected to my site and uploaded the whole folder that contained my template. Now how do I put this template itself on my webpage?! Still working on it.. |

Look for file called index.html and make sure it appears in public_html folder.

Take those index files from the screenshot and upload them into the public_html folder? I did that already, like some of the site is appearing and some isn't.. What goes in the public_ftp?? |

Hostgator offers pretty good customer service so long as it does not apply to web design. And it seems that what they consider to be within the scope of web design is pretty broad depending on what rep you happen to get teamed up with. I cant tell you how many times I have heard "Unfortunately that is outside the area of our assistance". Several friends of mine who are with different webhosts like bluehost and such have never once had any problem like that. Its kinda sad really.
