How to get "as seen in" logos on my sales page?

Hey everyone,

I am a big fan of WarriorForum. I have been a behind the scenes visitor for a while now. But, I have a question so today seems like a good day to get involved.

I have a product in the weight-loss nutrition industry. I really want to give the product more credibility. I have noticed many websites have logos on their sales page from News Week, New York Times or other powerful names.

What do I need to do to get these types of logos on my site? Could I just buy a simple classified ad or do I need an article? Is there any good discussion that discusses this?

Thank you very much,

Ben

I think many people just grab the logos if a similar product has been featured. The phrase "as seen in" or "as seen on" is often loosely interpreted to apply if CNN and Time Magazine have ever run articles or ads on products that are almost the same.

Is that ethical? I'm not sure. The FTC is cracking down in Internet advertising, so a classified ad may make a lot of sense in case there is ever any question about the truthfulness of your ad.

a common tactic is to submit a press release, if it gets picked up by them then you can display that logo, personally I think its cheesy and over used but test it and see

    thanks

      Thanks Andy for the idea,

Do you know what the best way to submit a press release is? I know there are a few sites that do it. Do you have any recommendations?

I've been wondering this too. The classified idea seems easy enough.

We use some of these logos on our site - but ONLY because the publication/tv show actually did their own piece that included a product(s) that we sell, AND referenced our company by name.

Buying an ad in the New York Times and then displaying a logo for "As seen in the NY Times!" would be completely cheesy and if your customers found out (which they probably wouldn't), they'd laugh at you & your credibility would be shot.

Only a few (four or so) years ago people were always doing "As Seen On the Howard Stern Show" which was totally bogus, obviously, but it must've worked if so many people were doing it.

Any experienced/learned internet marketer should know that 99% of these logos are worthless. Like you said yourself "Could I just buy a simple classified ad or do I need an article?"... however these logos should mean that your product is THAT good, that they documented it for free.

With that said, I'm sure there are many newbies to the online world of e-shopping are duped by these images. And I find that quite a shame.
