How to track number of email opens from your list?

Hello, I have been hearing a lot of people talk about tracking the number of emails that are opened when they send one out to their list, yet I have hearn no one talk of the methods of this. I am wondering if someone could enlighten me?

I am a pretty decent PHP programmer, so after thinking for a couple minutes I decided that embedding a 1x1 pixel PHP generated image into your emails that tracks 'hits' (number of times someone views the image) would be the most efficient and pragmatic approach.

Your thoughts?

Best Regards

If you're running your own autoresponder that's a tougher question to answer. I use GetResponse and it tracks my email opens for me, all I have to do is look at the campaign's stats page.

An image is exactly how it is done.

You have to send HTML or Dual Format emails. GetResponse (and every other major email list processor) provides this functionality pretty much automatically... just have to set it.

Now, those stats are great... but, like all Internets stats... always skewed. My email client block images from being shown by default. Anyway, still a nice stat to have and you can always assume a higher actual open rate if you want.

Theoretically, you might be able to do it via an iframe also... unsure. Would probably be even less accurate though.

    Good luck.

Cook it for awhile in some nice butter or olive oil and you might be onto something!

SpamAssassin won't like this idea, so ... I suggest you to forget about it
