A nasty shock!!! - The importance of controlling your content.

Hi All,

In the news this evening was a guy who had a Facebook section devoted to a famous football (soccer) player. He says in the article that he worked on it for many hours each day and got huge traffic.

Here's the BBC news link:

BBC - Newsbeat

Basically, it seems he violated some terms and conditions and has had it closed down.

All of his work has been lost because he didn't control the content.

Whilst you can get much traffic from things like, facebook, twitter, wordpress hosted blogs, squidoo, myspace and all the other places, if you don't control the content, you run the risk of losing it.

Absolutely, do use these things.

BUT, always, bear this danger in mind and ALSO have your own blogs and websites and copies etc...

It will pay off in the end and could help you avoid a nasty shock.

(The phrase don't put all your eggs in one basket springs to mind).

Hope this helps.
Sam

Then why not take his site down from day 1, not wait until a year later and still then not have the decency to warn him of what was going to happen first?

Moral of the story - always keep back ups of everything.

That's a shame -- lot of work went into that.
