Default Help me with my header and alt image tags?

So I had an outsourced web firm who was supposed to do some on-page SEO for me, and well, I was basically disappointed greatly by them doing next to nothing so even as a non-programmer type I've started learning about meta tags and the whole bit. My questions are:

- If my site has multiple pages, should I link the main header graphic (which is repeated on every page) as an alt image tag to a different keyword per html page or does it need to link to the same keyword on every page?

- Where do I put my h1 tags on my html? My original web designer built out the page with the content of the site being towards the bottom of the html so is that where I start?

Any help would be much appreciated! If you wanted to take a quick look at my page/html and advise, I wouldn't be complaining either

Thanks again

And H1 tag should represent the main heading on the page, which should contain a couple of keywords about what the page is about.

I wouldn't get too caught up in Alt image tags except in the case where they are actually describing the image.

So on an 'about' page should the h1 header be 'About' rather than force it to be a keyword? I'm trying to gun for about 20 keywords on a site and not sure about the best way to go about it.

The designer basically used the name of the site as the alt image tag for every one of the keywords. I wonder if I should rename each of the images by giving them one of the keyword titles or are alt image tags so inconsequential in the grand scheme of things (especially when having to change 30 html pages manually!).

Well, the <title> tag and the anchor text of the links pointing to your site (and each page) are going to have a heck of a lot more influence on your SERPS than alt tags. H1 is pretty important too. I wouldn't even worry all that much about alt tags. Focus on page titles (<title> tag for each page), the text in the links pointing to your site and pages, a few H1 tags, and maybe the Meta description tag for each page. That should be sufficient.
