Find something you are passionate about, and are good at. A good example I always like to demonstrate is:

    Market: Wealth
    Niche: Internet Marketing
    Sub Niche: Generating traffic
Super Niche: Generating traffic with Facebook

The general rule is, drill down as specific as you can, then become a master of your niche. You will be able to target specific people -- which therefore will increase your optins, open rate, and sales when it comes time.

to build on the topic ... another reason to go the route of super niched is because once you become the well known authority on the topic, your generating traffic with facebook product, you may become the a precived authority on other promblems or goals your audience may need help with almost automatically..

      because of your previous work...
in other words it may be the quickest route to GURU status...
      and who doesn't want that.

Traffic, seo, and any particular method you've been successful at and can show in a case study style are all popular with buyers.

The more interest you have in the topic/niche you select, the more likely you are to have success.

In every business/career/etc you'll have days when you're less energetic and less motivated than others, those are the days when working on something you're passionate about will help get you through to the next day.

If you have no passion for your niche/market/what you're doing then it makes it a lot easier to slack off or fold when the going gets tough.

Not being a smartass here but How To Pick A Niche would be huge judging by how many times this topic comes up. Seriously.

Sometimes the not so popular niches can be very profitable if marketed correctly but generally speaking these main niches is the way to go...

The exact niche that you should choose will appear right before your eyes just as soon as you focus your research energy on uncovering an unmet need (want) that passionate Internet marketers are saying they have and finding or creating a quality product to satisfy that need.

Do you suppose that savvy Internet marketers are going to volunteer to hand you their best niche ideas in a forum?

Don't take this personally (because it's not meant as a criticism to you) . . . but what is wrong with conducting your own research to find the best niche for you, your passion, your talents, your experience, and your time available to work on your business? (as opposed to asking others to divulge their research findings?)

    Good luck to you,

    wayyyyy too many variables.

I would suggest something not super competitive, but still competitive enough to make $

You'll be spending a lot of time with it, so make sure it's something you're interested in. Also, think of when you're successful, and you'll explain to people at parties what you do.

You may start off selling AFF products, but since you'll be spending more and more time, you'll eventually be creating your own products based on your own experience.

If you've got any experience, like driving traffic to a blog or whatever, just pick the niches you've got experience with, and drill down from there.

Depends how you try to do it. How you plan on getting traffic. With StumbleUpon etc you can browse popular categories and niche down to a more specific audience.

What do you have experience in? What part of IM do you love? What do you have evidence of your expertise in? What skills? Whatever you choose determine to be the best.
